Radeon9800 SE => 9800 Pro ???

Would this be possible:

Buy a 9800SE, softmod into a 9800NP. Then use the Pro BIOS to change the card into a 9800 Pro.

I've been reading a little bit about these cards and this seems like a cheap way to a 9800 pro :)

Or am I way off base?

you have to get one with the 256bit ram ,so it has to be "L" shaped on the pcb. also the mod doesn't always work. it has about the same chances as the 9500np to 9700.

id say you'd have to get pretty lucky..

safer bet is 9800np

yes, if the SE was wayyyyy cheap it may be worth the shot, but i'd say you'd end up RMA'ing and getting a NP anyways, so just spend the few extra bucks and get a NP to start with.
