So who here likes the idea of Steam?
Who has problems with it?
I like a few of the features: friends list, easier to find servers, better pings.
But as of now, I can't even get Steam to run.

well i used it it ****ed me off so bad, but its being updated right?
so give valve a chance to get stuff straight they got a good idea to keep cs alive( becuz valve's contract with sierra has passed, and so sierra is taking back won servers, this is the reason why valve made steam.)

I too have heard mixed things about it. I guess knowone will ever really now how it is until HL2 is released, and people make it a bigger isssue than it already is.

the idea of an all-in-one program is good.
however, first of all it is very poorly executed. It's extraordinarily buggy. Right now, my menus are all labeled their actual labels..... #Steam_Quit or #Steam_GameList or random stuff like this....well, not random, but you know what I mean.
Second gripe. It's the ONLY!!!!!!!!! way to connect to HL games.
Third gripe. You HAVE!!!!!!!! to play 1.6. You can't play an older version if you want, which I know a lot of people want to.
Final gripe. It seems very incomplete. It's the exact same as it was when I played 1.6beta when it first came out. The same bugs, the same poor gameplay that nobody seems to like, the same program that works consistently on 3 computers. Everyone else gets a program that if it even installs correctly, will probably break down in the near future.
I like the IDEA of steam (except for the part where you HAVE to play the most current version of the game). But, unfortunately, it's very poorly done.

I thought it was decent, but I haven't used it too much...I play Wolfenstein ET and Frozen throne, but I hope they get it all good for HL2.:D

Someone help me out with my problem. I have had steam since it was released. It worked before, but recently, when I execute steam, nothing loads. I have winxp. It shows under processes that steam IS running, but nothing is in my systray and no steam windows are on my screen. Anyone know whats wrong?

That's exactly what happens to me. I have no clue what to do.

Steam itself, when they do fix the bugs and get ENOUGH bandwidth to release games on it, will be very nice. Lovin the messaging and locating of friends in servers...BUT....i do not care for valve spending more time adding card games liek 'spades' over fixing bugs in CS.....they treat it...as ' force everyone into CS thru steam, and forget about them' considering they added spades and another card game, and still have yet to fix riot shield problems...even thou each new CS/steam update they CLAIM they have fixed it...rofl..o wells..STEAM itself, is a decent prgoram, they just need to fix miinor bugs to before actually releasing games people are going to PAY for...
if i had to PAY for cS 1.6 over steam, i wouldnt have put up with the laggyness and not being able to CS.

Yea if they make me pay to play cs i will just quit and find something else. I have heard the same from a lot of people, so it would be a very stupid move on their part to do that. But who knows.....
I think steam sucks and needs to go burn in hell. I dont see why these people just cant fix the BUGS in the game and stuff that needs to be fixed but instead they decide to use good for nothing steam and add in a bunch of stupid junk.
