View Full Version : Overclocking a Duron 800
After trying to overclock my Duron 800MHz, all I can push it to is 980MHz. I have it set to that with a 9x multiplier and an FSB of 103. For reference, the board im using is an FIC AZ11E. I tried to push it to 1GHz, but for some reason the computer locks up? Any reasons why? When its at 980MHz like it is now it maintains a 32c/81f temp when idle..and boosts up no more than 91f using a Thermaltake Chrome Orb. But when set to 10x multiplier and 103fsb it wont even boot Windows..and the temp in bios is around 104f. Any way to make this baby hit 1GHz without crashing?

Have tried increasing the voltage dipswitches? Is 103 the most you can push FSB?
Have you attempted 9 X 110 ?
Yeah, that's it. If I change the FSB to the next setting, 105, it puts it at 1000MHz...but then the computer crashes on booting up. It seems to work pretty good until I hit 1GHz.. then everything goes crappy. I tried increased voltage from 1.80 to 1.825 and even 1.850..nothing helps. I know this chip can do 1GHz though. :)

10x and 103 FSB is 1030, not 1 ghz. My 800 will only do about 1030 stable. try doing just 10x 100, see if that works, and use a voltage of 1.85 volts at that setting.

trying raising your 3.3 v value to 3.6 or something. That should make it run at a higher fsb.

If increasing VIO doesn't get you there, you may want to upgrade your cooling..you're in an area that really warrants a total cooling solution.
I would also try 10*100 as this would only require a Vcore adjustment.
I think that I'd give 10*100 a go at first..it's easy enough to do.
I would also opt for a different cooler, if not for today, then for future processors. Your temperature reporting seems quite low. I am concerned that your reporting method may be in error to the low side.
Another thing, are you monitoring your voltages? And do you have an approved PSU?
A few Mhz to go..

Ya I am monitoring the voltages. Its staying at 1.80 - 1.82 core voltage. Im using the hardware monitor program that came with the board. Tells temp, fan speed, etc. What do you mean approved PSU? Everything im using is AMD approved for the Duron chip if that's what you mean?

Well, that didn't work. Everything is fine basiclly until I push the chip over a gig. That's when the problems start. Never messes up until then.
