I have examined my 1.2 T-Bird 266 and am sure that my L1 bridges are not cut - they look like this --->>

now the confusing part for me, is that on my asusA7A266, i am locked at 9x multiplier

the standard 1200 is default set at 133x9...

the prob with this is when i overclock, i'm sure my pci raid controller can't take the high bus speeds...

to overclock to as little as 1347.... i'm already at 149/37... it will go as high as 153/38 (1383)...

why do i only have a multiplier of 9x... it is greyed out and i don't have the option to change it...

i would keep the machine anywhere between 1347-1383, but sometimes the machine doesn't boot due to the raid setup not being able to handle it

temps are at 41... so it is not temp

can anyone help me... what am i doing wrong?

btw i also tried bios rev 1004 and all that did was raise my temps by 10c so the hell with that... went back to 1003b

i'm new here and am also new to athlon cpus... any help would be greatly appreciate

sorry for long whinney post, just confused!

I think your L1 bridges are fine - if the mobo was behaving properly it ought to let you set the multiplier to something ohter than default anyway, and then if the L1 bridges weren't connected it just wouldn't boot. The fact that you can't even select to change the multiplier suggests it's something on the mobo. Asus normally have good manuals - read through it again and see whether it suggests anything. It may be you're running in some sort of jumpered mode (though you can change fsb in bios by the sounds of it) - maybe there's a jumper/dipswitch to set to allow multiplier changes. You may need to set something along the lines of 'cpu speed' to 'user define' to get the option to play with the multiplier. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find it.

Dunno whether this helps... it's the only thing I can think of that might help :)

i read that and tried, but it doesn't change the multiplier problem... man, i don't know what to do... using dip switches i have no multiplier option... softmenu it is greyed aout and i can't change it from 9x where it is locked... i already checked cpu twice and L1 is not locked -->>

Only other thing I can find is setting 'cpu internal frequency' to 'manual' - beyond that I'm puzzled - maybe if you contact Asus about it they could help. Then again I've never actually used the A7A266, I'm just looking at the online manual, so there might be someone out there more experienced with it who's had a similar problem. Anyone?

FSB is addusted in Bios and multiplier on the motherboard dipswitches... it is not even in the mobo manual... there is an asus update article about it... anyway... i put multiplier at 10 and then tried 140 fsb... windows apps run smooth, but 3d apps failed... will keep it at 10x135=1350 untill i watercool (although my temps are around 41 idle - not too bad)

thx for the help... got me looking around anyway and thinking

and asus... learn to write complete manuals :)
