Ok got a 1.4 retail the other day with a KT7A mb. Thing will not even boot @ 1.4 (10.5 x 133). Locks everytime windows loads. Thing runs fine @ 10.0 x 133 but once I change that mult. it locks. Anyone else having same kinda probs? It should at least run 1.4.........
My Abit KT7A-RAID would never do 10.5x133 either, but 10x140 worked fine. I got tired of some settings working and others not so I went with a Iwill KK266R instead, 10.5x133 works fine now :)

Mine will boot at 1.4 but that's it. 1.426 and locks in windows. Will boot to windows at 1.6 and locks in the same place. going to upgrade the ram and psu.

My 1.33 does 10.5x133 just fine, but 11x133 will freeze the same place every time Win2000 is loading. I've also tried to increase the bus speed, this will either make is freeze the same place, or it will lock-up after loading windows. I know my ram can handle higher bus speeds than 133.
I'm using the KT7A-RAID
for me it looks like amd has put some new multipilere lock so that it locks at any multipilere higher than default setting on the 1.4(ayhja).
But this is just a WILD guess i hope im wrong, its just that i have heard so many ppl having the exact same problem.

i dont think of AMD putting a multiplier lock on a chip because overclocking benefits them in the thing that u will fry the chip or buy from them later on cuz it is good

yeh... but mine won't even run @ 1.4 if i change that mult.... will run at 10x140 but not 10.5x133.. locks right as windows loads my tray....
yeah its really odd!!! since so many ppl are having EXACT same problem even when they have good psus/ram and they still lock at anything over the default setting. But i really dunno if there is some new anti oc **** since i havent tested one myself yet. But its like they are locking when u use 100% cpu when oc. i have heard that they post at 1.6-1.7ghz but just lock on any setting over 1.4 in windows
I have been having the same problem since day one. Like I said I bought 2 1333 AYHJA chips and they do the exact same thing. Both will run at 152x10=1520 but both of them lock when I run 10.5x140 ro 10.5x145 or 11x133 or 11x140 or any other multiplyer. Very dissapointed in this chip. Mabye Tom at Tomshardware will figure something out.
Seems like the people having problems all have the Abit boards, hmmm coincidence? I think its a problem with the Abit motherboards and not some AMD multiplier lock or anything of that kind.

I'm going to have to agree with Aman99 on this one. I have one of these new chips too, and can set the multiplier to whatever i want. This is on an EPoX 8K7A

Could be a limitation in Windows. I remember that Win95 had problems with AMD above 350 MHz. I am at 10.5x135 stable on a 1 GHZ TB but going to 11 or 11.5, Windows has problems but booting to DOS shows no problem. I need to try it on a Linux setup to verify this.

Yupp, sounds like it's a problem with the ABit board =\
Go sell your Abit boards on Ebay and get yourself an Iwill, thats what I did and my system has been problem free since :) Heck, I sold my Abit KT7A-RAID for $140 on ebay, and got a new Iwill KK266R for $122. $18 profit and this board actually runs the multipliers I tell it to, sweet deal if you ask me.
