Currently i have...Abit KT7, Duron 700@810, 128 megs pc-150 kingmax memmory, 4 meg ATI Rage video card, sb 16 sound card, 2.1 Gb 5400 rpm drive. I mainly spend my time on the computer surfing the web, chatting to people on instant messenger, using microsoft office, and listening to music. I know i need a new sound card, but that i will worry about later. I have around 100 dollars to upgrade something, but i dont know what will give me the biggest improvement. I could upgrade to a geforce 2 mx video card, upgrade to an IBM hard drive, add more memory, or sell my abit KT7 and use that money to purchase an Abit KT7A. So what should i do?

For what you are currently using the PC for..I'd upgrade hard drive to something with more capacity. Either that, or perhaps opt for a modern video card.

If you are happy with the video performance, and don't need the storage, I'd bank the money, as it's likely to buy you more in the very near future.

As far as VGA card goes, you could get a Ge Force 2 MX 400 64mb card for $100 delivered
Hard Drive- IBM Deskstar 75 gxp 15gig for $100 delivered.

Either or would be a good upgrade.

The GeForce2 MX 400 has a core freq. of 200mhz, whereas the MX has 175mhz.
The memory is 166-200mhz for MX 400 and 166 for MX.
They are very good cards and blow the ATI Radeon's in that price out of the water.
Here is some info;

A review from the front page likened the GeForce2 MX 200 and 400 to being the biggest farce since the 56K modem. Don't pay a penny extra for those two variations than you would for a non-200 or 400 unit.

You can get a GeForce2 MX32 for $48.00 + S/H and a GeForce2 MX64 for $68.00 + S/H. I use the 32 and without overclocking it, it scores above 3000 under 3D Mark 2001.
