I understood that the CPU speed was derived from FSB and Multiplier. ie FSB 100 x 10 = 1000. So, can anyone explain why when I set my Mobo to 145x8.5 = 1232.5 the system runs fine but when set to 136x9 it won't POST. All other settings are the same. I've run using the 9, 9.5, 10 etc multipliers with lower FSB's OK. Still no matter what I do I can't get the thing to run any faster than 145x8.5. I feel the system should be capable of running much faster. Any suggestions ?

Actually 145 is pushing it for sure. You can up your VIO voltage to the max and add better cooling to the north bridge and that may help, but i would say your about at the max for that mobo.

Ordinarily I'd say it sounded like a problem with the L1 bridges if some multipliers didn't work, but I thought all 1gig chips (or most) came factory unlocked. If you've unlocked the bridges yourself then they're probably the problem, and you need to redo them. If, as I suspect, they came connected, then I'd look to the mobo for a problem - could be a 'bad' board (though 145fsb isn't exactly bad and if only one multiplier doesn't work, maybe it's not that bad lol).

I have 3 , 1 ghz 266 FSB chips and none of them came unlocked, my friend has one also and it didn't come unlocked either. Just FYI that I don't think that "most" come unlocked :)

You did not say what voltage you were running the Vcore and Vi/o at. You may have to up one or both of them.

it seem that 136/ ??mhz is the problem.the ??mhz is the mhz that are going to your pci cards and agp. so if ??mhz that is higher than 33mhz your pic and age cards may give out.I'm not sure but i thank the ??mhz is higher on the 136 setting than the 145. i use the 130/32mhz than move the fsb by 1 until i got my 142/32mhz fsb.that way the mhz for pic and age dont go above its spec mhz.

Ah, ok. I thought the 1.2gig chips did, couldn't remember whether the 1gig chips did or not. Guess I was a little confused :)

Thanks for all the responses. The chip is a 1GHz 266fsb. The core voltage is 1.825 and I/O 3.6. I've tried raising both but it makes no difference. My TBird was unlocked so I used Rear screen silver paint to unlock. Will check connections next to see if one has broken.
