Just ta let y'all know, finished my first gromac today.
Work has been slow, and crashes have been many.
But i think i found a happy medium between temp and speed to start cranking out WUs under knoppix or something.
Where can i get my dirty little hands on a boot CD?
I'd love to just use all the CPU cycles for folding when im not home.

Have you thought of Overclockix?

Sorry, radiationman......
Don't think my modem will be able to D/L a copy of that in this century...LOL
Seriously though, I'd really just need a non-GUI type of interface..
Maybe a DOS or Linux based program that will use all the CPU cycles available, with the smallest amount of CPU cycles given to the OS and the most alloted to the fold.
(Boy i must really be gettin into this.....I'm willing to use my 'puter for something other than games and web browsing.......strange).

That BS free OS just for folding would be overclockix, I'm sure someone could mail you a copy on CD if you asked nice enough. ;)

OK, next questions would be:
1. does this CD actually boot the system directly into folding from the CD, or is it an installed OS?
2. will this OS interfere with the original system configuration, in such a way as to prevent further booting into the original OS?
I'm just a little weary, guys. Can't ever remember booting directly from a CD.
3. will the CD include instructions for flags, arguments and such? (the only system of its type that I've used is SCO Unix 5.0, which came out like 1989, wasn't it?)

1. runs completely from cd. no installation necessary afaik.

2. no.. if you boot to the cd when you change back to booting from the hard drive it will be just like it was before.

3. you'll hafta ask arkaine.

btw.. you've never booted to a cd before?? how do you install windows??

i always boot to the windows cd when installing windows.

I'm running win98 from an upgrade CD, and win95 still required a boot floppy to access a cd driver, afaik.
I do have winXP on the second partition of the first HD, but i hardly ever use it, and win98 was already installed before XP.

BTW, I just got up. I fell asleep about 8:30PM since i was sooo tired........long work week.
