i wouldnt do that because from what i see they perform the same. i had a 4200, finally got my hands on a 5600 and im selling it before it already. if you want to read my funny story go here

go with atleast the ATi 9600pro.

i saw some charts of the little ole 9600pro killing the FX series single handedly

The last few tests I've seen around (august/september testing with latest detonators), the FX5600 ran nicely along with Ti4800's on most DX8 games, and beat it marginally in DX9 games.

Once they started hitting the cards with filterings etc. the FX moved off and left Ti-4800 down by 10-15%.

But yes, the ATI's remained 10-15% ahead, but also cost roughly 10-15% more than the FX5600 around here..

But certainly, I would keep that Ti-4200 (I am very happy with my Ti-4400), mod and OC it, and wait till the Radeons become more affordable.

Edit: BTW, don't get the 256 mb variant of the FX 5600, most 256 versions have slower ram on the cards than the 128 models. (nicely seen on tests at toms hardware and by German PC Games)

i plan on getting the 128mb version of the 5600u if i do get one cause i noticed that they are faster but also they are cheaper. the reason i want one is to be able to run half life 2 and doom 3 when they are released and also i want something new to overclock. the benchies i have seen of 5600u campared to TI4200 was pretty good it was equal in almost every DX8 game but was alot better at high res and with FSAA and ANSIO filtering and in DX9 benchies it left the TI for dead.. as for ATI well ill die before i buy one of those heaps of crap. i have seen more problems with them then u could imagine and i am loyal to Nvidia :D

that card will not be able to run either of those games at a decent frame rate...spend 30 more dollars and get a 9600pro, or 70 more and get a 9700

A r9600 pro or an XT would perform better. I can attest that you notice a big jump in performance when you oc the fx5600 core.

I've got a little over 10% oc to my core, and I'm running all my games at higher a resolution (no AA/AF), usually gaming at 1280x1024.

However, if I knew what I know now about current video cards, I would have gone with an ATi card.

Subzero is planning to buy an Albatron geforce fx5600 ULTRA (!) Not that **** non ultra with 256 DDR Mb, that's Bull****. Ultra is way too better than Ti4200

All 256mb FX variants are non ultras. They dont make any Ultras with 256mb.

Look fine you want to be stubborn and stay with Nvidia? So if you really want to stay an Nvidiot the rest of your life then stay away from the FX line. Because if you think your going to be playing HL2 with any of the FX cards... your smoking somethign that I want to get my hands on.

Tee ATI 9600 pro does better in HL2 benchmarks than even the 5900 ultra. Heck the 9600pro is about 80% faster in HL2... sad isnt? How that heap of crap ATI Midrange $160 card straight up owns Nvidias top end $350 5900ultra in all DX9.

In Case your head was in a hole: This is Straight from Valve.

So yes if you were to buy that 5600 ultra you would discover why so many people have jumped ship to ATI because you would be playing HL2 at 13 fps. So my advice... stick with your ti4200. Ahh yes the GF4 the last good card NV made. SO yeah stay in your wonder land with the ti4200. While Nvidia toils in theri hell of 2nd place trying to figure out what they were thinking. And just hope NVidia's next card can continue to keep you as a customer.[IMG]

The FX5600U are climbing into the $170-215 range, and for that price you could get a R9600P and have $20 left over to treat yourself to a nice meal out :P

You could find a refurb R9700P for ~$200

I truly hope to see you thanking IR1 when you decide to upgrade, instead of flooding the nVidia section with "I'm getting crappy performance in XXXX DX9 game, how do i make it faster?"
