heat messing around with my sound then? maybe my sound card getting a little too hot? i don't like the crackling, i underclocked back to normal and I still got the crackling... so it must be heat related... need more or less voltage, how the hell do I mess around with this thing.

I had the same problem once, I also thought that it was cursed by overclocking, but when I ran at default speed it was still there. So, I did the good oldie: Format C: And that made the cracking go away!

I forgot: Before formatting ur HD, u should try to update ur soundcard drivers.

shin, could you post a full set of your PCs components, OS and Bios revision? If a Via chipset, what version of the 4 in 1 drivers you are using?

TIA,

T

What sound card are you using? Do you have the latest drivers installed for it? I have had crackaling with my Hercules card with the drivers that came with it. The problem is that the install cd loads the drivers but they don't actually get used because Win ME thinks it is a Crystal sound card. I had to manually choose the new drivers in the device manager. I mention this because the symptoms were just like yours. What is the speed of your PCI bus? Try to OC by muktiplier and see if the problem goes away.

We really need more sys info to be of any further help.

My Creative Labs AWE64 (ISA) card did this until I set my HDDs to DMA.
