Im looking into making some waterblocks, some pretty basic ones. I plan on using a router to do it with. What bits will I need?

If u mean a hand router, all the power in the world to ya to get it to go where u want. Id use a 1/4 bit, any smaller and ur gonna break it im sure.

search for router, you will see how its for WOOD not metal.

plus it spins WAY too fast...

Waaay too fast, hope u got block secured very secure or you could be making a painful spinning projectile. Get urself a drill press and a dremel. :D

I have a dremel, and I was talking to my father. He said he would rent to own his drill press. What bits would I need for that? It seems most people dont favor a router.

Yah, routers spin at something like 10k rpm... waay too fast for working with almost any kind of metal. You can go to home depot and get a black & decker (not the best but it'll do) set of bits for like 10 bux or so (I think) that way you have all you need. If ya just wanna buy individuals... hmm.. maybe 7/64, 1/8, 1/16, 1/4... etc... prolly be easier just to buy the set. ;)

actually 10krpm is awesome for milling, but then youll need(or want) some coolant, carbide end mills and to be able to handle it. there is no way that you could dip a router into metal without it breaking the end mill.

Also, you will not be able to mill with a drill press, only drill with a drill press(thus the name DRILL PRESS)

heh, yah, 10k is ok for milling... but a router isn't a mill. :p You can do some very rudimentary (sp) milling with a drill press, but I wouldn't recommend it. As J said, you would need coolant, some sort of highly accurate xy vise, and a drill press that can handle horizontal load (Good luck). I won't be milling with my drill press. :D But I do have a xy vise that's very useful for making different styles of blocks.

Dude i just had a mental image of someone trying to router a block of copper out!!! it would be so funny to watch hahaha
Like an episode of tooltime on home improvement.

actually, routers spin alot faster than 10k......more like 20K to 25K, under no load of course. If you were to use a router to mill a block, you'd be lucky if it spun at all under that load.

I htink he wants the sizes of the bits. Like 1/4 etc...right?
