I just got my cross over cable and installed the second NIC in my pc. Now i am trying to connect the 2nd pc throught the 1st one using AnalogX Proxy, as recomended to me in one of the earlier posts. Just like the instructions said, i configutred the IP of the second NIC on 1st PC to 10.0.0.1, and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Then i went into IE configuration>lan settings on the second comp and selected "use proxy settings" ip 10.0.0.1 port 6588. Unselected "automatic setting configuraion".
But it does not work, when i start IE on the 2nd pc it says the usuall page not found.
What do i do?
here is a copy/past from ipconfig on pc1 (for that specific NIC)
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

What is the ip address on the 2nd computer, and are you able to share files between the computers?

i did not specify an IP for the second pc, so i guess its just default:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.207.246
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
And heres the full info on the 1st PC, maybe that helps:
for both NICs
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 4:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.170
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
No, i can not see or transfer files between the 2 computers

on the 2nd pc, make the ip address 10.0.0.2 / 255.255.255.0 subnet.
make the deault gateway 10.0.0.1 (the ip of the NIC of the 1st computer that it is connected to)
This will hopefully solve your problems.

THANK YOU very much.
Its working now. Internet works and file sharing works. Sorry to bother you but just one more question. How do i configure Instant Messenger? what protocol does it use?

In the options of the messenger It should ask you what type of protocol you want to use, and what port. Configure it to what you have set up in analog x.
I have gotten msn and yahoo to work, well at least the older versions.
Edit: MSN can use HTTP proxy... so just give it the same settings as IE. Yahoo may require you to use socks4, which is supported by analogx

thanks. I just got one BIG problem, probably not related to the proxy setting. I restarted my 1st pc and got a lovely message:
"NTLDR is missing press any key to restart"
running windows 2000
fat32
What do i do?
i am going to post this question in MS operating system, so if you consider this a double post please delete this one.
Edit: did a forum search and found this:

Is there a floppy in the floppy drive? That is the most common reason for that error but not the only one. Good Luck:D
