View Full Version : K6III -500
Hi, We have an Asus P5A with a K6III-500 on board. We've been putting off an upgrade for awhile and I was actually curious if the K6III will overclock to a decent rate.
I've read the K6-2 was not a great overclocker. Any suggestions? Or should I even bother with this?
Thanks
Welcome to overclockers.com Saxkid.
Both the K6-2 and 3 were terrible overclockers. I don't know if I would even reccomend trying to overclock it but being the curious person I am, I would have to give it a shot. My K6-2 450 would only do 475 at 2.6v and even that wasn't 100% stable. Play around with the settings a little and give overclocking a whirl but don't go to high with the voltage, 2.6 would be the most I would go even with good cooling.
If you really want to upgrade there are plenty of good deals out there. I would recommend a duron since they are very inexpensive and generally good overclockers. For an inexpensive motherboard there are many choices but if you are overclocking get one with the KT133A chipset. One of the best motherboards for not a lot of money is the Asus A7V133. It is probably the best overclocker out there since you can adjust the multiplier and buss speed. Still I cannot overlook the low end motherboards since they can be had for under $100 with a duron 700. The cheep rout may be your best bet if you would like some bang for your buck. Man I am cheep, but getting the most out of your money is something overclockers do very well.
