Have now got my Athlon 900@990 not a lot I know, but I am fairly new to this. My Ram can handle 133Mz and even has been run at 140 without problems even though it is only PC100. Would it be better for me to carry on creeping up the bus a few more notches (5Mz) at a time, or should I start by unlocking my CPU. Sadly my Gigabyte mobo is not really any good for overclocking, so these are the only options open to me without upgrading a reasonably good mobo.

I am not familliar with Gigabyte boards.
If you can change the multiplier either in bios or by jumpers, go ahead and unlock your cpu.

If your board has the VIA KT133 chipset not the KT133A you probably cannot go higher cuz of the board. KT133 usually cannod go higher than 105-115 mhz. Some can do 120, but others not even 101mhz. You are either lucky (currently at 110), or your board has other chipset than the KT133.

Thanks, my mobo manual assures me that I can manually clock at these speeds:- 105,110,113,115,117 and 133Mz. I in my ignorance thought it was 5Mz at a time, but that was reading small print on the mobo at the time. My chipset is the older VIA KT133. I can only but try.
Where's that screwdriver?

Well, dont be surpriced if you cannot do 113mhz, but who knows.
Any multiplier settings in bios, jumpers?

I actually have a dip switch that I have been using on the mobo, that is only for bus speed. The BIOS is basic to say the very least. Idiot proof, proof that I'm an idiot for buying it. Until I flashed my BIOS I had some Gigabyte software that could give me some really weird clock speeds. I don't know if this was done by multiplier or not. Would have replied quicker but cat was eating Modem cable!

I find a piece of three core cable plugged in at one end works a treat. Their hair tends to stand on end for a bit!!

Am beginning to think a little more of my mobo. Flipped the dips to 113Mz and away it went no problems. It is definatly a KT133 not the newer version.

I did try the software, but ever since I flash upgraded the BIOS the software won't recognise the mobo. Plus the software takes an eternity to kick in when using Win 2K, anything up to a couple of minutes.
What temperatures are you getting underload?
