I'm about to attempt my first OC. Ordering everything from newegg tomorrow - NF7-S rev 2.0 + Barton 2500+. I'm told I should have a good PSU (have cheap case/PSU now). So I'm looking at the Thermaltake V1420:

It's the TT Xaser III V1000+ and the w0008 420W PSU.

The problem is that while the TT url says it comes with the w0008 (which has PFC), newegg says it comes with the w0009 (no PFC, both the description and pics show the w0009). I emailed newegg about it (maybe the w0008 comes with newer verisons of the case/psu).

But just in case does PFC really do anything? Sorry newbie :)

PFC???

thermaltake stuff always seemed overpriced to me, check out the sparkle/fortron power supplies they are relativly cheap an put out more power than they are rated for, if you look around the forums the are very highly regarded

Thanks, after reading/talking with others I'm getting the Fortron 530W PSU from egghead. Plan to order everything tomorrow (10/10 payday).

As for the case I'm going back in forth on 3 different ones but it seems like the PSU is more important so I might just buy something local so I can see it first.

don't buy local
If nothing else go to a store pick a case you like and order it online you will save lots of $$$

what cases are you looking at. what is your price range.
I know I have a chieftec dragon that i love, antec lian li and lots of others make similar stiles but give a price range and we can give you suggestions as well as a place to buy it where you can save money

what is a PFC
