$925 for 1000 units, so probably $1000 for consumers:

The quoted price for chips in 1000-unit quantities doesn't always tell you much about the price for consumers. For example, a P4 2.8C is supposed to cost $278 _after_ the price cuts at the end of this month. But you can get one now for $263 on newegg. I would imagine a P4EE will run about $825-875 if and when places like newegg get them. That's still not cheap of course.

F* that. I'd sooner buy an FX-51 and play around with Windows XP 64 2003. :D

Prices of both companies' "flagship" processors are currently very high, even if the top cpu's have traditionally been expensive.
Ironically, the gains that these pricy chips bring are quite low, and even if one would be tempted by them it would still mostly be due to the fact that processing speeds have been stagnant for a while now. The EE chip is still a 3.2Ghz part, not an extreme speed, even though the 200Mhz bus is nice (but also to be had on normal P4's). As for the cache; I'd rather see all P4's with 1Mb and a reasonable price, than 2Mb on a specialty product at humbling costs.
I'm also under the impression that the EE at least is a stopgap product, meant to take some shine from the 64bit AMD initiative while Prescott is late.

I read somewhere that Intel will probably continue the EE line, and call the Prescott P4E, so that there's P4, P4E, P4EE.
