View Full Version : Hardware DVD decoding
I read somewhere that on the later ATI cards, DVD decoding can be done on the card.
Can anyone confirm this, and how do i get it to work?

Most modern DVD player software makes use of the hardware accleration provided by the newest ATI chips. If you want to be sure that you are using all the hardware acceleration, try to find a copy of the ATI multimedia center which contains the ATI DVD player. You usually only get it with retail cards tho.

Still have this problem.
Went to ATI site,
Downloaded the multimedia center.
Started install
Asked for original ATI cd rom.
Inserted this.
Asked for original ATI cd rom
Inserted again
Asked again for original ATi CD ROM.
I've spent €600 euro on a top range card, and I'm not allowed to play DVD's on it? Wow. Thats some marketing strategy on ATI part.
P....ss.....d :(

Try PowerDVD. Sorry, that's all I can think of.
ATI provides that DVD player for BBA card owners. You own a Sapphire card. Sapphire is the one who choose to not include a DVD player. Don't blame ATI because you bought a card from another comany that just happens to be powered by an ATI chip. The included software package is generally clearly marked on the retail box, or the product website.
BTW - ATI chips have supported iDTC and motion compression in hardware since the Rage128, so it's not just the newest Radeon chips.

My OEM Sapphire 9800 Pro came with a full version of PowerDVD XP.
