I'm totally new to Overclocking, although I have been to other forums and read ppl's problems and then the responses to them...I now want to oc my comp, but have a couple of questions.. =)

I ordered my computer online a long time ago, and it states on the reciept that it's a 750 t-bird, yet it's a slot 1, is this correct?...

here are my specs:
running a 750Athlon slot 1 ka7-100
192mb pc-100 sdram..
Geforce2mx
Antec sx830

the 2nd question is, what does everyone think a safe speed would be to bring it to?..
I love the case, it's so sexy.. =)

oh well.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thx

You should be able to get 1gig w/ a descent HSF. Go to the front page and look up the 750 Tbird on the CPU database. Good luck.

I'm not sure that if this applies outside the UK. According to a magazine I am holding, the slot A Thunderbird was only released for oem and test use. If it is a true Thunderbird it will start with the letters AMD-A.
Also you could try identifying it using WCPUID which you can get from www.h-oda.com. Hope this helps

hrmm, I d/l WCPUID, and i'm not sure what i'm supposed to be looking at here, you stated that it would start w/AMD-A, this is what i'm seeing:

Processor: AMD Athlon (Model 2)
Platform: Slot A (SC242 Connector)
Vendor String: AuthenticAMD
CPU Type: Original OEM Processor

hehe, i'm lost... ?..

thx for the help tho, appreciate it

All that means is that you have a slot A processor, rather than a socket A processor. No biggie. All it really means from an overclocking standpoint, is that you can only overclock w/ an increased FSB, rather than multipliers, unless you get a Golden Fingers Device (GFD), which allows you to change the multiplier settings on the chip. Look them up on eBay, they should be relatively plentiful (that is, asuming that eBay dosn't pull them down . . . they have a penchant for doing that to stuff like that, but I havn't checked.) With a decent HSF, you should be able to overclock to 1000 Mhz no problem. The only real restricting factor might be your RAM, with it only being PC100. It might not be able to take the higher FSB. Good luck! :)

thx a lot for the help,..

w/ram being so cheap now, i was gonna buy a 256 stick, but would it be a better idea just to buy a 256 stick of 133?... (from crucial)?

thx again

Should have made myself a little clearer. The AMD-A is the start of the model No on the actual CPU itself.
WCPUID is a utility and somewhere within it's readout will tell you what CPU you actually have. According to the magazine I have the readout for a TB should be
AMD Thunderbird (Model 4)
Slot A or Socket A
I would query this with your supplier as this appears not to be a TB, just double check the serial No on the CPU.

Don't worry about being repetitive as long as you get the problem sorted. To tell the truth I'm a newbie too, I just read too much ;D
