My mother went for the yearly inspection of her car two days ago. This includes an oil change, change of transmission and differential oil, and inspection of the brakes, etc... After they "inspected" the brakes, they told her that she should have a brake maintenence done. I told her to tell them to not do it, as I would do the brake maintenence on the up comming weekend. Taking apart the brakes to inspect them you'de figure they'd PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER!!! Maybe they thought they'd just make it easier for me...

That shiny bolt up top? It's not holding anything. The only reason it hasn't fallen out is because of the stabalizer link keeping it from travelling far enough out to actually fall out on it's own. The lower one? What lower one? It's already fallen out!

Umm...the car was driven in that condition?? If so, that's endangerment and I'd be shocked if you couldn't sue for that.

Can you bang a wrench on a stupid mechanic's head in Quebec? :D

So why is it you can't sue for that? What about the BBB?

well, if you can't sue them, slap them. Very hard. With a very heavy, sharp object. :D

drive the car towards their building at a high rate of speed, when you get close slam the brakes. Let their stupidity judge the future.

Looks like a Mr. Muffler job to me... I had the rear brakes go on my old car... and our local Mr. Muffler always has a BIG sign that says.. FREE Estimate. so I figure4d why not, they took the brakes all apart then told me the cost...WAY WAY overpriced, I coulda done the job myself but what in a rish so I was gonna have them do it, so I decided just to do it myself.. but the buggers REFUSED to put the car back together after the inspection because they were not doing the job... GRR! I just put the wheels back on myself with thier tools and told the manager I was driving home like that with no rear brakes and if I hit someone I was gonna sue them for the damages.

Oh.. and since whne do we have to have a yearly inspection??
Thats news to me

Pretty much sums it up, I have to deal with a lot of immagration crap for my girlfriend to move up here from Vermont and guess what... stupid quebec has different rules from the rest of Canada

The CPA here in Quebec, protects the dealers, garages, mechanics and the like from being sued.

Oh.. and since whne do we have to have a yearly inspection?

It's not a mandatory thing by the SAAQ, it's a dealship recommended maintenence. Have to do it to keep the warranty on the car. It doesn't have to be done at the dealership, but as long as it's done, the car stay under warranty.

Ah I see, I was thinking is was something Montreal was enforcing but now I see. Must be sort of whoever it was purchased from thier policy, because when I bought my new car they never mentioned anything like that.

Most car companies have some sort of maintenence policy you have to adhere to, to keep your warranty. Even if a car is warranty'd however many years or however many kilometres, you still need to do the maintenence. 50 000 kilometers in and your engine seizes because you've never changed the oil, they most likely will not cover under warranty. And yes, I've seen someone go for 46 000 K with no oil change and expected that the engine be replaced under warranty. I also had a client that was approaching the end of their warranty and wanted all the stuff covered under warranty replaced, even though there was nothing wrong with it. That's one call I'll never forget.

That's not cool at all. Well atleast the caliper really could not fall off. There really isnt enough room for it to get off the rotor. Its a good thing you noticed it before the caliper was damaged, and more importantly before anyone was hurt.
