View Full Version : How hot should a Tbird be???
I hate to ask, but how hot should my T-bird 900 be? I am not OC right now, but will be unlocking it soon to try. I am currently getting about 40-44C under load, with a peak of 46C once. Right now I am at 107F (42C). Is that hot? Should I be concerned? I read somewhere anything under 50C was OK, and that only when I got near 60 I should worry.
Should I add more cooling? I currently have the PSU fan, the CPU fan and HSU (a coolermaster 8x8), a fan on the northbridge controller and 1 intake fan at case back.
Thanks in advance for any help...
James
That is not hot. In fact it is kinda cool as far as the other temps that I have seen for a T-bird go, especially one that is OC'd.

I didn't check my Athlon 900 temp for a nearly a year, as I wasn't overclocking at the time. After finding overclockers.com I checked mine and found it to be running 67 C, without load. I run an intensive 3D package and during the evenings seti@home. I just hate to think what it was then.
It is now 900@1017 and my max temp is 49.1 C, that was after fitting a new hsf with some thermal paste. My old hsf was a coolermaster that came with my cpu, it was about a third of the size of my new one, and all the original heat compound had melted onto the chip. I was told by my local supplier that anything below 50 C was in the green, in the 60's pushing it severly and over 70, I would be looking at a new keyring fob. Hope this helps.

Welcome to *the* forum.
Your temps are in the range and what you read is basically accurate. If you are planing on overclocking I would suggest a little better HSF, the Coolermaster is an adequate performer, not a great performer. Global Win does a good job as do a few others. A few case fans would help keep the temps down as well. The cooler you get it the better your potential for overclocking. Mine is running at stock speed of 1.333 GHz with a Global Win FOP 32 and 2 120mm Sunon case fans. Current temp is 37C ... beep.

they look fine for now, don't let them get above 55C at most. Keep under 50 if at all possible, these are load temps.

The temps are fine...i changed from an ORB because my temps were getting up around the 53 to 55 under LOAD so I am going with the WBK38...lots o air pushing there...i am hoping to get atleast 1200Mhz from it and keep it under 50C
My 900 TBird is running at 40-45 with an Alpha PAL6035 and Delta 38. I love the combo (except the noise), the 45 degree one was while I was folding on a 93 (F) degree day, no A/C, but also no O/C because of the weather.

I have a 900 slot a overclocked to 1000mhz
i needed to put a fan on the back of my case to blow the air on the back of the cpu, It was weird when i was playing 3dgames ithe computer would drop half frame rate and then return to normal after 30sec . I think the computer was cooling down or something, I never get any hicups anymore. I wish i could overclock the fsb but with my old motherboard i cant even get 110mhz out of it with my cas2 ram. check out my temps in my profile. I could nt believe that my old slot a fan attached to the back of my computer solved my problem , my next case is going to be equipped with some major cooling.
