If I were to buy something that currently had time remaining on the manufacturer's warranty, would the manufacturer honor it even if I wasn't the one who originally purchased the item(s)?

Does anyone have experience with this?

I believe warranties begin at purchase date (which is why most require a receipt/proof of date of purchase).

Generally for computer hardware, the warranty covers the object not the person.

It could be sold one day, every day for 2 years and if it had a 3 year warranty it should be fine. (This is certainly the case for IBM hard disks, and i'm led to believe all major HDD manufacturers do the same).

Not sure about other stuff though, but that's the most failiure-probable part of the computer bar the PSU....

For most respectable companies warranty the item, regardless of who bought it.
