Can I run an unlocked CPU on a motherboard with locked multiplier.

And if someone knows: How can I unlock the multiplier on my motherboard??

ASUS A7M266
TBiRD 1333@1460 FSB 146
2x128 MB APACER cas 2,5@2
Swiftech MC 462-A

By unlocking the CPU you should be able to make multiplier adjustments on the mobo.. I'm personally not aware of a mobo that is locked as this would make the mobo useable with one CPU only

What I mean with a locked motherboard is that you cannot set the multiplier
in the bios or with dip switches.
What I know is that it is possible to solder a dipswitch on the MB and re-arrange some components to make it happen, but I dont know how to do it or what components or where exactly.

I have heard some rumours about that the newest bios for that board contains multipilere adjustements in bios but im not sure.

that means that if you unlock your cpu you can adjust the multiplier trough bios.
Damn if that is possible ....

yes it is possible, I dont know if your mobo does it.. but my Abit KT7A-Raid does multiplier and fsb adjustments thought its soft bios

yes, but your ABIT one is not like my ASUS.

I tought that asus was one of the exceptions whre it wasn't standard possible to modify trough bios

I have never heard of a motherboard being LOCKED, Dell and companies like that try to lock it so you can't O/C...but not yours...you should definitely be able to O/C your unlocked processor

yes "locked" was wrong chosen.
What i meant was that i am not able to set the multiplier trough bios or dipswitches.
Somebody said that maybe the latest bios could have some support for bios modification of the multiplier.
What I also wanted to know was if I put the unlocked cpu in my MB without any dipswitches or bios availibility for multiplier changing, the CPU would still work.

Got a similar problem with my mobo a GA-7ZX. The board automatically detects the multiplier of the CPU, and there is nothing in BIOS to alter the multiplier. I can only OC using the fsb.
I just found this site, you can chage just about everything by altering the bridges including the voltage. Not sure if I'm up for the job though

I have GA-7DX and have no multiplior change in BIOS too. :(

I have never heard of such a board? who makes it? If you said asus there has to be a way. You could also manually set the mulitplier on the CPU itself, just find the right bridges to connect and set the voltage; can you set the voltage in bios, or on the board? if not you may have to connect the bridges on the CPU for the voltage to. I can send you the bridge mappings for the multiplier and voltage, if you would like. Im interested in the type of board you have thou.
