Beginning yesterday, my computer has been freezing when viewing video (.mpg, .wmv, etc.) and playing games.

I originally attributed this to my video card overclock (#'s in sig). I changed the clock back to stock and I'm still getting this problem.

I also reset the virtual memory amount yesterday so I changed it back to system managed size and still got the error. I then changed it to 384 minimum and 400 max and still got the error.

I'm stumped. What could be causing this?

I'm getting a new HD soon, so if I haven't solved it by then, I guess I'll see if that helps. Until then, I'll try re-installing driver.

Beleive it or not a computer does what you tell it to do. Screw it up and it will screw up, overclock within the limits of the hardware and it will overclock.
The sad part of it all is we are experts at screwing it up and not knowing how or why :(
Time for, as stated above, you to reinstall the O.S.

Interesting solution, but do-able.

UPDATE:

I re-installed all drivers and DirectX, still freezes.

However, I did manage to get in to play BF 1942 but only if I chose a level in about 3 seconds. Once I was in the game itself, it ran fine. Seems that it has something to do w/the video playing in the background. Very strange.

Ok, I've found the problem. I downclocked my CPU from the stock 2.4 ghz to a turtle-ish 2.0 ghz and now everything works fine. I've never been so happy and pi55ed off at the same time :D

I'm beginning to think my motherboard SUCKS.
