View Full Version : OVERCLOCKING AMD 1.4
Hi. I have read numerous problems about overclocking the amd 1.4.. Most of them have used abut kt7 boards or had poor power supplys or cooling. Heres the deal. I have a 1.4 on a iwill kk226 motherboard with a enermax 430 watt power supply with a globalwin cak 38 cpu cooler, good well cooler ram and a great system on windows me.
My 1.4 is currently overclocked to 1.54. Everything runs great. When i try to go nay higher windows gives me a few errors. Usualy at the windows boot up screen like my windows is unstable which is crazy considering my componts. I have come to some conclusions: my system parts are not the problem, multipiers settings are not the problem becuase i have tried at normal settings with higher fsb and vise versa. It could be the 1.4 amd chips but i doubt it. The motehrbaords could be the problem but i doubt that also. I have heard all these settings to change in the bios but none have seemed to work. I am about 60% sure that its a windows problem. It could be me or 2000 but i also doubt that cuz i have seen the probs with 98. Some have suggested but reinstaling wondows but im not sure.
I looking for some solutions or helpful tips not other peoples problems as we all ready know about the situation. Please post accordingly.
What voltage are you running at? And will it boot into windows above 1.54? What's your processor heat look like? above 48c? I'm running a 1.4 at 1.56 stable. It WILL not boot into windows above 1.56 regardless of the voltage settings. (Up to 1.85) I would find your max and bump it down a notch to get it 100% stable. See if it runs a notch below what your at. (Just trying to help bud) :)
Thx for your help.. I am running at the standard voltage. I have found out that it maxes at 1.574. I tried 1.595 at windows barely started but everthing would not work. i even ran norton wincheck and it found 59 problems..LOL. my temps are low. i think it honestly has to do with bios speeds and windows cuz the boar5d would have let me know if things were unstable. I have gotten these errors at startup.. it tries to verify dma pool settings and fails and alsosometimes it asks me for a system disk so the os might be the prob. please reply back.

try bumping up the core voltage some when going above the wall you hit. i bet you go even further!
Ok. I set my voltage to 1.85 which is the highest the motherboard can support and no changes. One things that is odd thati remember. When i first installed this thing a few days ago it was runningat 1.667 fine until i attempted to go higher. The system asked me for a boot disk so i cleared the cmos and the highest since is 1.574.i would like to blame this on windows but i have seen 1.33 go upto 1.7 so maybe its the cpus.. Who freaking knows.. please post any news.
What multiplier and FSB combo are you using to get to 1.54 Mhz? If the FSB is 140 or higher, on my machine, I have to run the Vi/o at 3.5 for it to be stable in Windows. Stability is not just being able to get into the Windows desktop. I use a 1-2 punch to verify stability. First, I run Prime95 Torture until the temp stops going up. I then exit Prime95 and immediately run 3D Mark 2001, again until the temp stops going up. If I can get through both of those, I have found that no other programs will make my OC setup fail.

Well my current settings are 143fsb x 11 mutiplier and its runs fine at thi settings(1.573) i have tested running numerous hours of gaming ans some burn in tests. i have tried all sorts of multipier settings even with the fsb at 133.. windows seems to just stop at anything over my current speed of 1.573.
maybe it is the chip, I had the same problem, I originally got 1.65 stable, something got screwed up and I cleared the cmos, set everything to the same and was never able to get past 1565 again
(watercooled holds steady at 39C under full load)

i had the same prob i was at 1.6 and got an error once so i get back to 1400 for a day when i went for 1600 again no luck at all i am at 1565 now with 146fsb and 10.5 multiplier and 40-42c as mt temps
Yeah..it could be anything man. We both overclocked fine to about 1.66 then something went bad, cleared the cmos and will not go over 1.56 again????? Anyone have any answers.

I tried booting from a system and disk and it said theres a bad sys.cinfig file which leads me to believe thats its windows.. Once again anything will help.
