I have a problem with Halo. My system specs are: P4 1.6@2.13Ghz, 256Mb DDR ram, Geforce 2 Pro. When I start Halo, i get a message: Halo Fatal Error A problem occured initializing D3D, hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG. I tried updating Halo to 1.01 and 1.02 but it didnt help. I am using detonator 45.23 drivers ( latest official drivers ) and dx-9.0b, which was on halo cd. Please help!!!!

Make sure you've got anti-aliasing turned off before you start the game. Without the update it crashes the system every time. With the update, it still won't let my geforcefx run the game.

It might also help to run the program from a command line prompt from the start menu:

"C:\halodirectory\halo.exe -useff"

That will tell the computer to not to attempt to use any programable pixel shaders. Geforce2's don't have them and can't use them.

You may be facing some serious lag with your card anyway, even if you can get the game to run.

The game's a massive resource hog.

Good luck, though!

This actually happened to me and MANY other posters on various forums.

The problem is very likely your refresh rate. You've probably installed a refresh rate fix that is confusing Halo. So you need to tell Halo your refresh rate rather than having it look for it. Do this by setting your resolution and refresh rate via the command line. The easiest way to do this is with a shortcut.

Shortcut to halo.exe -> right click -> properties -> change target to...

"C:\halodirectory\halo.exe" -vidmode 800,600,85

With the first two figures being your resolution and the last your monitor's maximum refresh rate at the defined resolution. If you do this it should work.

As Duneadan said, using the fixed function T&L unit is the default for that card since it has no pixel shaders. And from what I've seen, the game performs acceptably on a geforce2 due to that very fact :)

Thanks, Gnerma!!!!!
I have uninstalled all Refresh rate fixes, I have now only detonator refresh for D3D. Game hasnt started with -vidmode 800,600,85 but with -vidmode 800,600,100 ( 100 is a refreshrate set in detonator drivers for that resolution ).
Now I can enjoy it!!!:p

Sure.

The game will work fine with a refresh rate fix, as long as you use the -vidmode switch. I don't know of any other way to get OpenGL games to run at higher than 60 than with a RR fix  So you might want to keep one installed.
