OS Printer Problem

I have a huge problem. I have a printer hooked up to 2 computers by way of a Parallel Autoswitch (aka a printer splitter). I need to have it like this because on of the computers is connected to an office ipsec network (windows nt) and the other computer is connected to regular cable internet (windows xp). Everything was fine for a while, but then one day the win xp machine just stopped printing. I tried a bunch of different things, but nothing worked. It printed fine from win nt machine and I even hooked up my laptop to the home network and printed from the printer through the windows xp machine. I just now disconnected the parallel autoswitch and hooked the printer directly up to the xp machine. I got stuff to print from IE, but any office programs (word, excel), wordpad and notepad do not print. Now the printer is being detected, where as before the printer would not even get detected after I tried to reinstall it. I am not sure what to do exactly. I don't have the office cd with me to reinstall office, but that would be my first guess, but I am not so sure that would work. I just replaced a bunch of parts because the computer would always have problems and I was sick of reformatting. I reformatted after I replaced all the parts. It just seems that every time I fix something in this computer something else goes wrong. Any ideas are appreciated. I tried out just about everything in the MSKB on this, except for the SFC (system file checker), unfortunately my windows xp cd is not with me at the moment either.
