i want to build a computer with

AMD ATHLON XP 2400
2 CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB PC 2100 DDR RAM
Maxtor 40GB
Asus V9180TD 64MB Geforce 4 MX440 DDR
Sound Blaster Audigy

but i dont know what motherboard to get. i've read a lot and i just want to know what motherboard i can get that will be rock stable. im not ocing or anything this is just for regular day use for a friend. thanks!

i was thinking of the MSI KT6 Delta (MS-6590) with the KT600. i dont want any of the new n2 boards because of all the problems im reading about it and i dont want to have to deal with any problems.

Hrm what problems are you refering to with the nforce2 boards? I have built systems for relatives on the nforce2 boards and I never would have done if I was not confident that I would not be dealing with issues on them all the time.

Considering your choice of memory any recent chipset motherboard is going to be a little bit overkill in the memory department. Is this memory you already have? If not why not go a little bit faster ram? If its a truley budget machine and you do not want to spend on the memory then perhaps a cheaper motherboard on an older chipset?

i've read that they have memory problems and video card problems. i was going to get the MSI K7N2 Delta-L untill i read the reviews on newegg and basically they all just said the new nforce2 boards have a lot of bugs. but yeah this is a budget computer. im trying to spend only 500. if you have any ideas or just tell me what i should get becuase u have more experience then me haha. thanks.

my friend wants to use this computer basically just to play computer games like counter-strike and chatting online thats why i thought a newer chipset would be better for video. i just noticed most of the reviews are postitive but if you go to the MSI site and go to their forums theres all sorts of problems.

i dont know about the US but all these prices ar cndn ($500 = $650) [do u want to spend 500 including the case and keyboard and stuff or do u have a case and keyboard and mouse etc..]
:

CPU: Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) $133
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VT600-L $97
RAM: 512 Samsung PC3200 $115
HD: WD 40GB with 8mb cache $84
Video: (with Audigy anything for $130 [i dont know]) W/O Audigy Sapphire Radeon 9500 128MB DDR $191 or Ati Radeon 9600 $169
Sound (do u really need the audigy?): on board $0 or Audigy $82

Total (CNDN):

1) With Audigy then $511 + Vid Card
2) W/O Audigy with Radeon 9500 $620
3) W/O Audigy with Radeon 9600 $598

Since u will not be overclocking i dont think stability will be an issue for the mobo and if he is going to game i suggest better vid card (i dont think u need the audigy and if u want good sound go for nf2 and save $40 on sound (CNDN))

ok so u have a mouse keyboard monitor and so on?

in that case i would co with the 3rd option:

3) With case and on board sound and ati randeon 9600:: $598 + $45 (case with 350W psu) = $643 canadian which is $495 US.

are you sure all those things are going to work with each other and be stable? where can i get this? somethings like the memory i dont see at newegg.com

Yeah the only thing i couldnt find was the ram on newegg but like i said im in canada so i dont know. Everything else is there u can get kingston instead ...
Im pretty sure everything will work ok there is no reason y it wont someone correct me if im wrong

All prices US and from newegg.com:

CPU: Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) $90
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VT600-L $69
RAM: 512 Kingston (cl 3.0) PC3200 $83
HD: WD 40GB with 8mb cache $65
Video: Ati Radeon 128mb 9600 $152
Sound (do u really need the audigy?): on board $0
Case: I dont know any case with 300W psu for $35

Does not include shipping (u can always try excalibur pc, forgot the web page)
Total $494

EDIT::

1)Sapphire Radeon 9600 128mb for $115 instead
2)Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 pro 128mb for $149

1)Total $457
2)Total $491
