View Full Version : how depentant is 3dmark2k1 on video card? look inside
p4c 2.8 ghz 800 fsb, 512 mb pc3200 ram, radeon 9500 softmodded = ~16000
p4c 2.8 ghz 800 fsb, 256 mb pc3200 ram(had to rma one stick), geforce 4 mx440 pci = ~2000
I was under the impression that it was 2k3 that was almost soley based on video card but I guess its 2k1 also...
probably old news but...

You heard right about '03 but your test is flawed.
To see how '03 favors mostly the graphics card, run a bench with the same card/card settings and compare that to a high overclock on CPU with the same card/card settings.
Game test's 2,3 and 4 will score nearly the same. Game test 1 wing's of Fury is the only test that will show some response to faster system speed's.

I prefer 2001, as it shows a more combined view of your system.
just ran it on my 2400+ and MX400. Got around 2900 as score. quite funny.

3dmark01 is dependent on your CPU, FSB, and memory speeds. Try running your video card at default settings with your CPU at default speeds, and then try running your video card at default settings with your CPU at max overclock speeds. You should see a decent improvement just by overclocking your CPU, FSB, and memory.

It's not that it is GPU dependant. You shoud remember that the 3DMark tests are to determine the relative performance of systems during 3D gaming. Video game performance is closely tied to your video card, so of course a superior card will yield a superior score. The reason people say 2k3 is video card dependant is because that is just about the ONLY thing 2k3 tests that is talleyed as part of the final score. 2k1 is a much better indicator of a systems overall gaming performance.:D
