Just curious if i should upgrade my slot a 1000mhz t-bird to a kk266 motherboard and 1.33gigahertz chip and overclock it. Im not sure if i should spend 300 bucks or should i wait
thanks

No. You wont notice any difference. Maybe if you encoding mpeg4 movies from dvd. You will do it in a bit shorter time. And benchmark will be funnier.

But in real life. No.

The game takes more advantage of the gpu than the cpu. So you should rather invest in a better graphics card.

I am no math major but I think it would be about 400mhz!! that is a 40% increase so that everthing will get a huge boost of speed! also get a C type chips so your fsb is operating at a higher speed too! 10x100 vs 10.5x133 will be over 50% faster!!

I'm going to disagree. Some and most newer games will be taking advantage of GPU instructions such as T&L, but some games still don't. Perfect example is UT, which is the only game that still has me addicted. UT is heavily CPU dependent, and as long as you have a descent Vid card, you will definetly see FPS improvements as you scale your CPU up. I noticed a difference from 1000 to 1200 to 1600.

Me, I recommend you get yourself a Radeon, or wait till you have some money for a Geforce3 or Radeon 2. Otherwise, if you got money burning a hole in your pocket for a new chip, the 1.4's are about $200, not to shabby.

Hey neptune is right......UT rocks! you can still get a 1gig that will do 1400 so that is what I would do myself! CPU is the brain of the the box so if money isn't an issue go for the 1.4 otherwise maybe the gig is all you need if you don't game! Neptune you need a V5!!!

well, i dont notice a tremendous increase of performance going from 1.0 to 1.3 ghz with my tbird. its more of a bragging rights thing it seems. even playing ut its not a big deal to drop down to 1.0, got myself a cheap radeon 32 ddr and it runs smooth ;-) im personally waiting for the palamino for my next upgrade, as i dont wanna spend money just to get a few hundred more mhz when they won't do all that much for me.

Ok i think ill wait until the chip as well as high performance fans go down in price . i am really interested in getting a kk266 without raid for 107 bucks right now. I still need to get a fan and cpu for my computer to use the socket a.
I might hold off for awhile since there dosnt seem to be any games out there except for tribes 2 that will give me any problems right now my voodoo 3 overclocked with unreal T is pretty smooth.
Video cards seem very expensive right now to upgrade to a ultra or geforce 3. It seems they will always have something better on the drawing board just waiting to beat the most expensive card,

you can pick up a radeon 32 ddr for under $100, or a radeon le for even less and flash it or whatever it takes to make it perform like the retail. good cheap video card solution.

I bought a kyro 2 4500 at compusa and those cards are supposed to be just as good as the gts pro , well i brought it home and installed it and tested it out and all i can say is that the card SUCKS
What make you think a radeon will satisfy me? I think i need to upgrade to a ultra or a geforce 3 if i want to get the same or even better fps in unreal T than my voodoo 3. I did notice the visual quality is alittle better than the voodoo 3 in direct x mode, but the fps and smoothness was not the same as my old ass voodoo 3 card

yeah, the kyro 2 sucks... its just an overrated piece of circuitry imho. not to bash the voodoo 3, but it won't perform near the geforce2 ultra or the geforce3. the radeon is probably the best performance per dollar of the cards out there today. it runs great in my system, high fps, great image quality, great dvd support, etc etc. can you take that kyro back? if so you might wanna check out getting a radeon if you want a fairly cheap good graphics card.

Yeah i brought it back and got all my money back. I used it for like 10 days and returned it haha. anyway i know the ultra and geforce 3 will kick my voodoo 3's ass and so will the ddr 64 meg gts pro.
All the reviews i read though about the radeon werent good when compared to the geforce 2 upper level cards i.e. gts pro , ultra. I was jusst in the cpu fourm and some guy posted about the amd road map for upcoming cpu's. I think ill wait a few months , go check it out.

In my opinion the Radeon Looks a hellavu lot better than the Geforce2 GTS or any Geforce2 for that matter (I've got a Geforce2 in my other machine) Objects in games just have this blurred look. Sure a Geforce2 Ultra is faster than the Radeon, but with my processor at 1.6ghz, i'll never notice the difference. I'm waiting to upgrade till the Radeon2 comes out. That will make nVidia more competitive price wise, then I'll just buy whichever i like better.

Big difference?
The answer is always: it depends!

I do some graphic work and will hopefully have time later this year for some video work. I also started programming again. And every MHz helps and I can see the difference. It even helps with Office a little bit sometimes.

My general rule of thumb is:
If the PC is fast enough for you why change?
If it is irritating you upgrade or get a new one!

why do you have 650watt PS? Does your chip make it to 1.5 easily. I was thinking of getting a 1.333 Axia for 160shipped! good deal or not? want to run at 10x150 think I'll be able to do it?
