I just made a fresh install of XP Pro on my machine and I look in the C: drive and there are strange files. With long names. Not really names though, just letters like this(fdsfdjkfajfjfajsdsak

I then click on it and then under the subfolder is sp2. I assume that means service pack 2, but I thought that isn't out yet. I also wondered why they would be at the root of the c drive and not in some other type of folder or temp folder. Never seen this before.

The folders were created by Windows Update, and given a randomly generated number (that wouldn't possibly exist)...to install the pre-SP2 patch(s) from. Unless you're in dire need of HDD space, I think I'd suggest just leaving the folders and their contents where they are...although they probably could be deleted without causing any harm. :)
