View Full Version : Overclocking 2000+ T-bred
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (T-bred)
Thermaltake Dragon Orb 3 w/ Artic Silver 3 Thermal Compound
Asus A7N8X-X Motherboard
256MB PC2100 DDR RAM (soon to be 512MB)
Right now I have it set as 133Mhz x 12.5 to give me 1652Mhz (so says cpuinfo.exe from AMD website, but I know it's 133x12.5).
I was wondering what I can safely overclock it to. Well, more along the lines of what frequency and multiplier should I use when overclocking?
Currently, my CPU is at about 45C idle, and 48C while gaming.
Any suggestions are greatly appriciated. Anything else you might need to know, please ask.
Thank you! :)

As you have ddr2100 you probably won't be able to raise the ram very high. First I would download prime95 and memtest86. Memtest86 will be used for testing the stability of your ram and northbridge, prime95 for testing stability of the processor.
Once you have downloaded memtest86 and put it on a disk, shut down the computer, lower the multiplier a bit and start raising the fsb. You should safely be able to set the ram voltage to about 2.8 or 2.9 (depending on how good your case airflow is) and then keep raising the fsb a bit and boot with memtest to make sure it's stable.
Once you start getting errors in memtest, you'll know what your max fsb is. Then you can start raising the multi slowly, and testing with prime95's torture test to make sure it's stable. If the processor is a t-bred b, you should be able to get atleast 2.3ghz out of it with a bit of added voltage and decent cooling.
I would also advise you to download motherboard monitor to make sure the processor does'nt run very hot, and to read all the overclocking faq's above.
Wellcome to the forum and the addiction!
Thank you! Very much appreciated. :)

http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=207088 is an excellent guide on overclocking. its a great read! may take a while but its worth it, even though it says "newbies guide ot overclocking" I think its a pretty darn good guide for anyone!
Cheers!

How about your CPU codes?
If you don't know them, here's a prog that will tel you if you have a T-Bred A or B.
