Hey, I just installed the below system (signature) yesterday evening and reinstalled windows etc etc till 2am! YEAH! So yeah all is working prime95, memtest, 3dmark etc. The system feels really fast and I get a 3dmark 2003 score of 5576, which is good/normal. All at stock am really happy.

However, being new to nforce2 boards/ radeon graphics I have some questions which need answering asap cause I need to know :) if you know what I mean.

First of all the simple question. When I touch the radeons heatsink its is quite warm! That is in 2d more. Do those things run hot, it it supposed to be so warm? Case is really well ventilated at the moment.

Now some nforce2 questions. (bios)
In softmenu 3 the AGP frequency can be changed from 66Mhz to higher. Does that mean I can change the AGP bus speed separately from everything else (PCI CPU RAM)? If yes that is so cool. And what is a save oc for the agp? 72Mhz?

CPU FSB/Dram Ratio and the CPU Ext CLK question.
Ok if I change my CPU ext clk to lets say 180Mhz and I leave the CPU FSB/DRAM at SPD (which is 166Mhz) will my ram be o/c or be at SPD? And when I activate the dividers manually to lets say 3/5 what does that mean? I don’t get all those dividers. why is there 2 values? Examples please with FSB agp bus and ram bus and pci bus would be appreciated. What gets changed how?

CPU Over temp Protect: WHAT is this?

CPU thermal throttling: HUH what is this?

Are the last 2 settings related in any way to the CPU shutdown temperature and CPU warning temperature in the systema health screen? At what temps will the last 2 points kick in?

Thanks in advance. I need to clear these questions of my mind cause they are bothering me. :)

If the card is at stock speeds and the case has decent ventilation then there is no reason why the card's stock cooling shouldnt be effective - the card will be OK. Modern graphics cards do run rather hot.

CPU Over temp Protect: WHAT is this?

I would say that this is an option to shut down the PC if the CPU goes over a certain temperature.

CPU thermal throttling: HUH what is this?

Probably an option to slow down the CPU if it gets too hot - a bit like thermal throttling that is built into P4s.

I would think so - not entirely sure.

The BIOS should allow you to decide what temps.

did some research (even though I should be working)

agp frequencies: yes is all inderpendent THIS IS GREAT. lol

CPU FSB/Dram Ratio and the CPU Ext CLK question

For an example, any 1:1 ratio will set the FSB and DRAM speeds to be the same, i.e. 4/4 and 6/6 both mean that a FSB of 166 will result in a 333MHz DRAM bus. A 5/6 setting with a 166 FSB results in a 400MHz DRAM setting, and 3/6 would result in a 666MHz DRAM bus speed, with a 166 MHz FSB. Keep in mind that we're still finding that synchronous FSB and DRAM bus speeds result in the best benchmarks overall.

so best to leave it at 1/1!

CPU Over temp Protect: is the same then the PC shutdown thing in pc health monitor. which one counts first or is more important is a mistery

CPU thermal throttling: nobody knows if this works and when it is supposed to kick in.

ahh me happy now. cant wait to o/c a little when I get home
