I have a Thermalright slk-800A on a Barton 2600+ and the gigabyte 7n400l1 that i am using is reporting the cpu temp at 55 degrees celcius. Is the motherboard temp. sensor just faulty, or can this really be the temp? The fan that is cooling the heatsink is a Smart fan 2 at 3000 rpm's. My friend has the same cooler and doesn't break 40 degrees celcius at idle. Please help, thanks!
First thing to do is to get the latest bios for you motherboard (you can use gigabyte's @bios). I did that on my GA-KT600 and the temps dropped almost 10deg celsius.
The second is to get 2 system coolers (one intake and one exhaust) because that may be the actual temp....
Go to the cooling threads and read the sticky if you want some advice on doing that...
best of luck on getting lower temps !
---- there's no 2600+ barton... just 2500+ and 2700+ (and higher)
you must mean tb (too lazy to search how it's spelled)

oh you're right, i believe it is a TBred, are these types of temps commmon?
i also have a tbred 2600+ and gigabyte mobo and befor bios update i was getting about 54 idle and 58 full load with 2 system coolers
now i get 47deg idle and 53-54 full load.... they say gigabyte shows higher temps than other mobos
