View Full Version : Installing video card without the drivers?
Is this possible? I lost my nvidia drivers and I need to reinstall my video card because I want to format. Can I just download the new drivers for the card? Will that work?

Yes its possible, windows will load a generic driver upon reinstallation and then you can download the appropriate driver after your rig is up and running again.
So d/ling the driver from the net is just like installing it from the CD?

Not exactly. you'll need to download the file to a place where oyu can find it. Nvidia's drivers are pretty much self installers. Open the folder where you saved the download and look for the file that says "setup" or is "setup.exe" and click on that. The self installer should launch and walk you through the steps.
I keep a file just for Nvidia drivers because they're constantly upgrading and changing. You might browse the Nvidia forum and read other's result with different drivers.
Good luck!
I am talking about d/ling the latest drivers. Not just the ones that the CD had on it when I installed it. But, d/ling the latest drivers is what I need to do and everything will work fine?
thats prety much it. after the format windows will start without drivers and run at 640x480 (xp at least) until you install the a set of drivers for your card. then everything should be just peachy
