hey, i just got a couple of new upgrades for my computer to replace my old motherboard and cpu and ram. Soooooo i bought a 1.333 ghz and 512mb of ddr ram with an asus A7A motherboard. When i reformatted and reload everything little thing I notice it freezes like every other @#%$ing second. i was wonder if anyone knows a good program so i can find out if my hardware is bad, if its just win98 or if anyone knows how to fix the freezing. i even froze writing this post 2times!*cries* thanx for the input.

Well try these things first...

1. What power supply do you have? See the other posts in this forum on people crashing and locking up.

2. Make sure you have the newest 4in1 drivers, BIOS revision.

3. What temperatures are you running when this happens? Use the monitoring utility that came on the CD to find out. It is possible it is overheating because of heatsink contact with the CPU. As well I have heard that, that particular board is buggy, infact someone in another post mentioned there is something about it on the front page of overclockers.com. I just about bought one, but after many of the major sites and message boards were commenting on it's reliability I decided not to.

Good luck!

At the moment DDR technology is new and as such feature a immature chipset.. The Asus DDR mobo I believe uses the AMD 760 chipset which is know to have problems ( there is a report on the front of overclockers.com about these problems, if you want to have a read ).
I now know of four people who are having stability problems with Asus DDR mobo's.. One post can be read Here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/forums/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Read&BID=2&TID=20503&P=1&SID=19678#ID33)

If you tell us more information about your PC we may be able to help solve this situation.

Did anyone think that maybe your installation of windows is corrupt? Or that you have ghosted drivers? That locked mine up all the time!

1st off go get your self a bigger power supply or use 2 power supplys like one just for your motherboard and processor and another one for your hard drive, fans, hsf, cdroms, videocard fan, floppys etc... I used to have the same exact problem don't even bother formating its useless just look and see if your motherboard can use the 686B IDE patch if it does try that also all these things I did and it seemed to fix the problem. Also go over your asus manual I know your probally saying but I alrdy did that , do it again and make sure all those jumpers and crap are set correct.Check your temps for your mobo and processor also frequently, use that asus probe while gaming alt tab and check ur temps.I hope this works for you as it did for me.GL.
