View Full Version : [SOLVED] Abit KG7...what RAM would I use???
With the release of the Abit KG7 we are now given a new option in mobos, only prob is its DDR only, so my question is.. obviously I want to over clock it, which RAM do I use 2100 or 2400, the 2400 is nearly twice the price of 2100 but would I need 2400 to get the most out of an overclock?

check abits site, but if i remember you have to get registered DDR chips.
I checked a few different post about the different ram types, I am only planning to use 2 x 256 sticks (money permitting) so I doesn't really become an issue for me.

If you are only going to populate two RAM slots, non-registered DDR is okay, If you are going to populate more than two slots, then registered is a must.
Another caveat, you cannot..according to all of the information that I've seen regarding this board, mix the two types of RAM..
You can check Abit's site, or AMD's for the tech. docs. I don't feel that paying the extra money for the PC2400 is worth it..but that's me. Crucial is overclocking well.
EDIT: I found Ed's article on this issue

had read that article unfortunately it still doesn't tell me how overclockable the ram is.
