ok fellas, i installed iis, did what i thought i was suppose to do. so check to see if it is working, by using browser and typing http:/localhost, and it works i get the default page. so then i try my ip addy and a no go, it doesn't work, i sign up at no-ip.com downloaded the client to auto update and that is all good, created the host name blackhabit.no-ip.com, try that and still no go, so then i tried my other pc on the network, no workie, then i tried two other pc not on network and still no go, did i forget something that important? am i that retarded, lol. i cant figure it out. so whats up?
btw i didn't create a website yet i just want the default page to come up first so i know that is working but it seems it isn't
edit: windows xp sorry
did you configure your website's ip address as unasigned?
have you tried to see what happens when you type 127.0.0.1?
could port 80 be blocked on your network?

yes ip is unassigned
when i type 127.0.0.1 i get the ,connecting to box, that ask for username and password
when i type in my gate way i get the same.( i dont remember my user anem or password because it has been two years since i set it up. is there a way to find it or even set a new one up by reseting the old?
my isp allows port 80 but would my block it? please help. thanks
that's weird... when you type 127.0.0.1, that's just the loopback IP, which should show you the same page as localhost...

check if anon access is allowed, check to see if you have remote desktop enabled, since in XP it is by default, thats what the connecting to seems to be. ....brain freeze

it should be under the properties of the default site (right clcik and choose properties) then look through the various tabs, I believe its on the first tab that the window opens up to

i've never dealt with IIS so keep that in mind with my suggestion..
it sounds like IIS is set-up to display your web page on it's loopback ip but is not 'broadcasting' your web site out through the external interface..kinda like how IE can be in online/offline mode..there may be something similar with IIS where you need to 'turn it on' so to speak..
just a thought

this must be the most common problem people have after installing IIS and when they try to test it it works, but if the get one of their friends on the internet to try it out it wont work for them most of the time, why not just use apache ?
