Swiftech MCX462-V (http://www.coolerguys.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=971)

Well, it's all about performance, so any review that has proper tests and results in it should be better than anyone's opinion. It's all about the numbers. It's a bit pricey. Does anyone know how much the new thermalright heatpipe cooler costs? I can't find it on SVC... cant find much on there after the new layout... everything is thrown together...

Are you talking about the SP-94??? The SP-94 retails for around $60 (I think), and for $50 on newegg.com.
Is that swifty the one that comes with the peltier on the bottom, or is it sans-pelt???

I personaly like this heatsink. It looks great and its cooling is superb. I am a bit biased though cause i am a swifty fan boy.
great sink i got it today in the mail and put it on with some artic silver 3, my idle temps are 40 and load 45, before it was about 50 idle 55-58 load with my old heatsink. i've got the 92mm tornado on it with a fan controller to silence it a bit. now i'm going to work on making a duct from one of my side fans in the next week or so

hey if u wanna make a duct, heres wat i did
1) Find an old crappy fan that doesnt push enough air, or even better, a broken one!
2) Cut out the plastic things holding the actual fan blades/bearings in, usually four little "rails", u can usually cut em out with a good pair of wire cutters (a new addition to my moding arsenal) and u should be left with a the plastic outer casing of the fan
3) For better results, u can also sand down the jagged edges and make it more aerodynamic, which is what i did, i highly recommend this
4) Now cut the hole out above the hsf (remember measure twice, cut once), get a fan that blows air in a cone-type pattern (around 30-40 cfm), screw the fan casing u just cut and sanded onto the fan that your gonna duct, or tape it onto the fan and screw the mini duct onto the case side panel
5) Your cpu temps will now go down as much as 5C (mine did)

Drug testing (http://drugtestingkit.org)
eh i have a hole about 3 inches offcenter my heatsink and its 80mm so i was going to take the fan off the side and make the hole bigger at least 100mm and run some duct i guess or maybe PVC or something clear and attach it to the side -> heatsink....i dont know how i am gunna attach it considering how many times i take off the side to get to the lil jumpers inside

I've got both the MCX462-V and a SLK-900U... the "U" provides a lower idle temp, but the variance in temp in idle and under load is quite a bit more than with the "V", although the "V" gives me a little bit higher idle temp. I'd go with the 947-U any day.
The MCX-462-V just looks really cool :)

Hmm I'm guessing there's more than one variable at work here.
that seems to be the same results as what a reviewer got. lower idle temps with the SLK900U, but slightly higher load temps than the MCX462-V.
