Hold out for the 9600XT. Its a more capable card, and if you plan on buying Half Life 2 when it comes out, then in the end you save money ($200 for game and card, as opposed to $178 for the card, and $50 for the game). The 9600XT will be shipping next month, so its not a long wait at all.

Of both those, if you want it to last 2-3 years, the 5600 wont cut it

the 9600 pro is meant to compete with the 5600 ultra, that looks like a vanilla 5600 w/256mb of ram, which that card does not have the power to use anyway. because of the quantity of ram you can expect ram that will not oc well.

i would get the 9600 myself as the fx line of cards havent benn great but if you go nvidia, the 5600 ultra with 128mb (of probably faster and better ocing) of ram would provide better performance

the fx cards suck in dx9, either get a 9600xt or a ti4200 if you cant afford and want to pay 1/3 the price :)

i dont know about it, im not sure if id be willing to spend 50 extra bucks for less then 10% more performance, and less then 5% more most of the time.

Look at it this way...you arent spending $50 extra bucks, when you get a $50 item you would buy anyways for free. That effectivly makes the card equal price, why would you NOT go with the better of the 2?

You could always look into a 9500np. I just got one from newegg that softmodded into a pro. :) Good stuff! :D It's probably a cheaper route than the 9600XT, also.

Cheaper, yes (though not by a whole lot)...but there is no garauntee it will work, and if it doesnt, he ends up with a rather slow card when compared

I personally wont recommend the 9500np to softmod into a 9700 unless the person is either willing to deal with the crappy performance, or is willing to shell out the cash for another card if it doesnt work. Gotta remember, the majority of the cards dont sucessfully mod, and can end up being a waste of money.

Yes, that's true. I probably should have mentioned that.

very true. Out of the 4 cards i bought over the year, only one softmodded to a 9700 without checkerboard or artifacts. You have to take a risk.

Holy Cow! I wanna beat my eyes with a hammer! OC550. He SAID He needed a card that would last a COUPLE of YEARS. The Ti will, if not already, be Obsolete in about 2 months. LOL. It also will NOT play,or take advantage of DX9.

Dude get the XT. From reviews, Seems like a winner!

Im so seriousely thinking of buying you a ATI card man. Then you can REALLY enjoy your Games the way they are ment to be played. Im not kidding. If i come across a card i will do it.

heh maybe all of us users here who want overclocker550 to see the "light" could have a pot for something like a 9600 pro or something

He will love the new games in DX9 alot better. I have a 4200 also, and my 9600pro Plays so much better and looks ALOT better in newer games. Its gonna atleast take advantace of HL2 the way its suppose to be played. Maybe not the fastest by far, but still better than a strictly DX8 card.

Who will hold the pot? SSS?

i wouldnt buy him nothing, he is the one who continualy wastes his money on ti4200. he could have saved up a bit more and got a 9500 or 9600.

i agree with oc550 actualy .. just to spite you all .. :P

ive got a GF 4 TI 4600 and it has better image quality and out performes the most of the FX cards and ati cards with a little overlocking.. plus you can pick em up cheap second hand.. right now is a bad time for graphics cards.. nvidia is sucking

Enyo
10-22-03, 01:16 PM
btw my gf 4 out performs my gf fx 5600 ultra and most ati cards in benchmarks beacuse its oc'd and at lan parties people are amazined by the image quality.. may not have some fancy dx9 bells but no games really support dx 9 anyway..

and just beacuse up double posting.. what the hell is your problem you lot? oc550 made a very good recomendation 4200's are CHEAP and are more efficent then most moden day cards at $ : performance ratio.... ?? what the heck is your lot's problem? anti oc550ism?

harryinny3
10-22-03, 01:25 PM
oc550 recomends the 4200 to peeps that say they have $400 to spend on a card. And to answer your question on oc550ism, NOPE. Just sick of hearing About an obsolete card is all. Weve All had one, and we moved on.

Harry

Enyo
10-22-03, 01:33 PM
we can safley move on from 486 procs and sims.. but not that card.. its not obsolete yet.

manage a network of 8 233mghz machines running halflife (1) and that gf4 4200 becomes your gf fx 5800

oh and if your sick of hearing about gf 4 cards don't bother posting in the Video And Sound Section . it is a graphics card and comes under Video.

harryinny3
10-22-03, 02:39 PM
Like i said before , Whatever. If you reread my post, I said i was sick of hearing how great HIS 4200 IS! Not the G4 cards in general. I own one. Like it too. BUT the difference is, I WILL NOT RECOMEND Them as a card to get ,to someone who wants to spend $400 on a card like he did. End of story. And the day someone gives me advice on where to post is the day I Buy out Nvidia and put them to rest once and for all.

Im done on this thread, Offer still stands Oc550. See ya round Xmas.
