I have an AMD Duron 650, ASUS GeForce2 MX, SoundblasterPCI64, 192mbRAM, Abit KT7, running win2k. Basically what happens is the whole computer just freezes, the sound the cursor everything, nothing responds which results in me having to restart. It does this at random intervals for no apparent reason. I have just recently formatted, this didn't fix it, I have upgraded the bios, updated all drivers, I am at a loss as to what to do, any help will be much appreciated.

What psu are you running? 300W or better should be fine, but 250 might not be enough.

for some reason i had the same problem...try installing the 4 n 1 again...for some reason it helped me out...also check your BIOS and make sure everything is ok there

hi, i've got the same problem!
It took a long time to discover it!
actually it was very easy!
I also tried to upgrade all the drivers.. i've tried iwn 95,win 98, win me and win2000... NOTHING helped!
Friends and computer stores adviced me to change the ram from slots..
DIDN'T HELP
I pulled everything out of the STUPID box and piece/piece in again.. DIDN'T WORKED :-(

At a beautiful day, I started to overclock
What did I see?? He froze more often!!
How come?? Don't know yet, but I thought something.. TOO HIGH TEMPERATURE!

Finally, in stead of overclocking, I underclocket him 100mhz.. RESULT???
YES, NO MORE CRASHES, FREEZING,... A PERFECT PC!

What do you have to do in my opinion..
Buy a good cooler! I bought an alpha cooler first with my amd 450mhz

Right now i've got a cheaper one(about 15$) this is not expensive at all and THIS is the solution for your problem! cooling is necessair also when you don't overclock.. First try to underclock your 650 to 500 and try him out some hours..If there are no crashes, just buy a good cooler

Right now i've made me a new pc; first thing I did: GOOD COOLING!

GREETZ,
amd 850@1100mhz
192MB RAM
TNT2 32MB RAM

PS: would you let me know it when it works/doesn't work? thx..

Yess! Cooling is the answer! Try water, if you can afford it!

Might also want to try uninstalling the VIA busmaster driver and use the MS default. This worked for me. I read a couple of bulletins about it.

Hope this helps....
