Ok, recently the system process, not the system idle process, has begun taking up 70% of my cpu time. But this only happens when im browsing on the net, whether IE or Netscape, it happens.

I've run Ad aware 6, Spy bot, scan for viruses with Norton 2004, Defrag, Disk Cleanup, Scan Disk.....i even ran the Welch worm fix tool, but had no worm....nothig has fixed my problem....went to microsoft.com...found nothing.....

Can anyone help ME?

oh yeah...im running Win XP Pro.

To isolate and narrow down the problem, you can perform Selective Startup troubleshooting steps and test the CPU usage in each condition...Start | Run | Type msconfig and click OK | Select "Selective Startup" and remove the checks from each item below the Selective Startup option | Click OK to restart your computer.

Test the issue in this condition and write down the CPU usage. If the computer runs correctly and the CPU usage is normal in this condition, repeat the process, but add one check back each time to the list of files listed under the "Selective Startup" menu. Apply, and reboot each time so that the change can take effect...then test the issue in each of the following conditions:

Clear all checks:
Process System.ini:
Process Win.ini:
Load System services:
Load Startup Items:

When the issue reappears, you'll then know what's interfering with the normal operation of your computer. :)

obviously, you don't know what i'm talking about.

when you mention "system process", there are many things in there such as windows media player, MSN messenger, other things when you use them.

look under "image name" and "peak mem usage" and "I/O read and write " column ,

if you don't see some of above mentioned colum in your task manager, click "view" menu and select "select colum" of "task manager"

the one redduc 900 show you ONLY solve your startup problem NOT your particular problem

by the way, somebody in this forum had this kind problem and i help that person solved the problem. Perhaps, you can search in the forum . By doing that, you will see what i tell you is very much the same.

i guess this person knows what "image name" and other columm are

Do you happen to be running any VPN software?...something like SecuRemote VPN from CheckPoint?

...and what was the outcome when you unchecked the following items from the Selective Startup menu, and rebooted?...

Process System.ini
Process Win.ini
Load System services :)
