View Full Version : Need Help! Please ! I'm Going crazy!
I purchased an abit Kt7a to overclock my AMD 1.1 Gig CPU. I install everything correctly and its started to freeze. I then removed all cards and placed them back in one by one until I got stability with my system. I eventually found that the problem was with my Sound blaster player 5.1 sound card. My system runsd stable without the card installed, but once the drivers and software are installed the system freezes. My spec is below
Amd 1.1 gig (not overclocked) temps 0k
G-force 256 video card
128 PC-133 RAM Crucial
Creative DRx3
Diamond Superexpress internal 56k modem
AMD approved PSU 300Watts
I hate my sound card!

It is probably an IRQ conflict. Have you tried placing the sound card in a different PCI slot?
That should work.
Yes It is an IRQ conflict, I freed up IRQ3 which was used up by COM port 1. However SB 16 Emulation driver then conflicted with another IRQ ?? any suggestions

Well how many PCI slots do you have available, because all you have to do is try moving things around, and see which one 'works' for you.

you might try to allocate part of you IRQ to legacy hardware (IRQ 3 and 4) and leave the rest to auto/PNP in the BIOS or disable COM 2 (IRQ 3) in BIOS
COM 1 should be 4 and COM 2 should be 3...it's a reversal...
If you are using a PS/2 mouse, it takes IRQ 12 automatically which bumps everything and most folks don't use COM2
Is your modem on COM 2, 3 or 4?
Try putting the sound card in slot 3 and the modem in slot 5. That worked for me.
