Does anyone have a Celeron in the 900mhz+ range and a Duron around 700/750mhz. Or do you know of any comparisons done by websites? I just want to see if the differences are huge or not. I have an Athlon system and it's great, but my second computer is an old celeron which I can throw in a new celeron which I would o/c to the 900 range. If the differences are so big in games(which the 2nd machine will mainly be used for) then maybe I'll go for the Duron and mobo switch.
Any help ?
Thanks in advance :)

go for the duron!
The duron kicks the celeron in the face very very hard.
For a start you have the duron 800 at £50($70) and the celeron 800 at £70($100), then theres the fact the duron is on par with the p3 so is faster at normal clock rates, they will probabally both overclock to about 1ghz, the duron may go up to 1.1ghz so it kills the celeron in overclocking and performance and is cheaper and doesn't have the multiplyer locked so you can get the best fsb your motherboard gives you and then ramp up the clock speed with your multiplyer, plus you can upgrade in the future to a faster tbird or palamino it don't take no einstein to see which is the best choice

Duron wins hands down but if it means changing the m/b than obviously the Celeron is a cheaper option...
Cheaper yes but bad value. Going the expense of a £50($70) duron and a £100($140) board is much beter than forking out £70($100) for a celeron, oh and a possible £15($20) for a slocket granted the duron setup is double the price but gives you the option of going to the tbird, where as the celeron only has the p3 to go to which the duron performs on par with and overclocks better than. Intel is terrible for upgrading. Just look at the move from ppga to fc-pga making it incompatible for no reason, and now the tualatin on fc-pga2 has done that again. At least socket A will be around long enough to upgrade.

the celron and the duron arent even in the same class anymore lol the duron pisses on piii's and is a great value and they are good overclockers with the right mobo. so i say Duron hands down!

Heh, well I knew the Duron kills the celeron. I was just wondering if a higher clocked Celeron would compete reasonably with a 250mhz less Duron in games.
Money is a problem! :D :D
Thanks though

Although I wouldn't use the same language :), I agree w/ Dozier...kind of. My Duron 750 @ 1000 destroys my P3 850 @ 1000. I believe most of that performance though is due to the fact that the duron is running a double data rate bus set at 133MHz (really 266) vs. the single data-rate bus of the intel running 118MHz.
The DDR bus of the Duron processors makes them much more potent than the celerons and many P3's. Hope this helps.
