View Full Version : Can't break 1.5ghz with a 1.33ghz Athlon.Need help please.

System spec:
FIC AD11 mobo
AMD 1.33 overclocked to 1.466 (133x11)
1.75v
133 FSB
256mb DDR RAM
GeForce2 MX400 w/64mb
Every time I try to take it past 1.5, Win2000 will not boot. I get an Ntfs.sys error and blue screen. I have tried a 133FSBx11.5 with a bunch of different voltage settings with no luck. I also tried raising the FSB to 138x11 with no luck. It definitely is'nt a heat issue because the temperature barely breaks 47C. So I suspect I am either not getting the voltage correct or the motherboard becomes unstable past1.5ghz for some reason. Any ideas anyone???

NTFS error = Nortin Anti Virus.Btw are your bridges unlocked on ur CPU , is it AVIA, AXIA ? or AYJHA.What type of cooler do you have.If you need a good cooler goto www.millisec.com GLOBAL WIN WBK-38 or FOP-38 ,ALPHA coolers all reach 1.5Ghz or higher.Get some artic silver also.

O yea did you try uping the VCORE and the I/O voltage for your ram ? to reach 1.5Ghz+ you need at least 1.825 VCORE I know from doing this.

Ntfs.sys is a Win2000 system file. It stands for NT File System I believe. I'm not sure if the chip is an AXIA or AVIA. I forgot to check it when I inserted it and the code is now covered with thermal grease. Also, I am not having a heat problem. I have it narrowed down to a voltage problem or motherboard stability at higher clock speeds.

What is the wattage on your psu? Have you upped the voltage at all. What type of cooler are you running and did you put artic silver compound on also?

Hi Serious Paul,
Welcome to the forum!
I also have an AXIA 1.33 with FIC AD11 mobo also W2K. The mobo is not one of the best as I have been unable to get the FSB to run at higher than 133 stable. So that leaves us with only the multiplier to play with. Make sure your FSB is at 133 in the BIOS. Also turn of the spread spectrum at the same place. I run 11.5 with no prob so we need to look what different with your setup. I also run at 12 times but Prime 95 doesn't work although everything else does.
SO lets start:
1) How do you measure temps? The mobo readings are fairly accurate but not always. It is better to get one of these sensors you buy and insert it between heatsink and cpu cast NOT CORE! That will give you a better reading.
2) WHat heatsink fan are you using with the CPU? The generic stuff and coolermaster stuff will not allow you to OC on this CPU.
3) What PSU are you using? Make and how many watts?
My thinking without a lot of info is that your CPU is getting to hot or your PSU is not upto scratch. Make sure that you measure idle temps and temps under load with Prime 95 for more than 20 minutes with the torture test. I suggest you do this at the default clock and COre voltages. SO let the mobo detect the defaults for you. Post all this info and then we can look at troubleshooting.

All AXIA's do not go over 1.5 They will all go 1.4 or 1466 with no problem. That FIC is not the best board for overclocking. I have fic, Asus, Abit, MSI, and Iwill.
The Iwill will ultimately go a bit higher with the same cpu than any of the rest. 20 or 30 mhz, not worth worrying about. Just set it at 1466 consider yourself lucky to get that much performance for the price and quit fooling around with different HSF combo's before you crush your cpu and have nothing. Its not worth the effort for 50 or 60 more mhz. Good luck

I think I will take your advice. You are right, it is'nt worth frying the chip for an extra 50mhz. Plus I am getting tired of screwing around with voltage settings and dip switches. I've been at it all night.
By the way Castle Lager Fan, I am using a Thermaltake Mini Copper Orb heatsink and measuring the temperature with the mobo reading. I run the game "Serious Sam" at high res with all details set to max for 15-20 min to stress the CPU and then check the temperature. At 1.466ghz the temp does'nt go higher than about 48-49C. Also, I did have "Spread Spectrum" enabled. What is Spread Spectrum? and what core voltage are you using?

Stanman,
I stand to be corrected but every 1.33 AXIA is capable to reach 1.5 with the correct setup.
Serious Paul,
Spread Spectrum must be of for bet results. I am not sure what exactly it does in mobos, but when turne on is supposed to reduce the EMI(electromagnetic interference) of the mobo. I found that it does make the board go slower. If you want to go higher you will have to improve your cooling and maybe PSU. The cooling involves a better HSF (swiftech 462 or Glaciator), case fans with holes in case, rounded cables ,etc. SO the choice is yours. But if you decide to go higher, be careful when removing the Orb, most people chipped or cracked thier cpu's with orbs. I got to 1.6 but Prime 95 didn't work, so I'm at 1.53. Anyhow good luck.

i am also using the fic ad11 with a 1.33 tbird. the fastest ive gotten it too is 1460 (11^133). Right now im at 1425 (9.5^150). Cooling is not an issue, as i am running at 41 degrees max under heavy load. The ad11 is rock solid unless you want to overclock it a ton.

well the system in my sig , kinda hits the wall around 1600 mhz
1550 inst stable in prime 95
11.5x133 is , but since i got a factory unlocked cpu i can play with the multi all i want
and 7.5x200 is just darn cool
