My motherboard is Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL (nForce2 based), CPU Barton 2500+ I have it running stable at 11x200=2200MHz as "AMD Athlon(tm) 3200+" :) with JNC XP-M cooler (big aluminium based with copper base and 70mm fan)
CPU vcore is 1.75V and after heavy load (Prime95 and 3Dmark2001SE for hours) the temp is going up to 75C. The reading is from the CPU built in diode, not from the socket (which is about 55C)
When I'm running it at 2000MHz (2800+ rating) at 1.6V the temp is around 55-58C (diode reading)

Thing is I'm little scared from this high temperatures (75C) I know that working temperature range for this CPU is up to 90-100C, so 75C is pretty close...
Do you think it's safe (as much as it can be) :D to leave it like this?

Also, do you think maybe adding an shim would help?
(I'm considering THERMALTAKE A1594 AMD MP&XP Copper Shim...)

Reseat your heatsink.:) Buy you some Arctic Silver Ceramique.

Eh, believe me the heatsink is seated well, also polished and all...
the termal compound is STARS 700 silver grease, never had problems with it
What are your temps?

shims only make temps worse.
so no thats not a good option to help lower temps

I would do what P-nut said.. cant hurt the reseat the heatsink and that often helps..

As for the THERMALTAKE HSF.. i try to stay away from that company as they dont make very good heatsinks....

great list of sinks... My advice to you is (since you already want to buy a new heatsink) read through the list, and grab the best sink you can from it that wont break the bank or be too loud on your ears. So if it has a DELTA, stay away.

i am using this one right now

nice to my ears and works really well..
Plus its 1/2 the price as a Thermalright and has a FAN

Upss!!!

75C would be too high for a motherboard sensor reading, but sounds about right for the internal diode. I woldn't be to worried about that if I were you.

I had the same high temp issue with my Barton 2500. I solved it by getting this HSF http://www.directron.com/dp1011.html and back off on your OC for a couple days after applying the new HSF and thermal compound so the compound has a hcance to cook in and settle down, then OC it as high as you can. My setup runs around 47c at load now.....was around 55c before....

How much thermal grease did you apply? If you over apply its bad for the heat transfer.......

I would do like the guys are suggesting, either get a new heatsink or re-set the one you have - adding a very thin layer of grease/compound.

75 degrees is a little crazy and the fact that it jumps 20 degree's in the reading from a .15v increase rings alarm bells to me!!

I reseated the heatsink, applied the thermal compound (very thin layer, as I always do) and guess what... the temps are the same as before. The copper base of the heatsink is lapped too, and touching it while the PC is under heavy load shows that its HOT, so thermal transfer is OK but I'm afraid this HSF can't cope with the Barton... :(

Weird thing is I've had two T-breds B with this same setup and both were about 15C cooler than this Barton on same frequency and voltage... :-/

Can you suggest where can I find arctic silver for cheap?

Is that the HSF that came with the CPU?

Nope, my cpu is OEM, the HSF is JNC XP-M cooler (big aluminium based with copper base and 70mm fan)

In the Bios the CPU temperature kept jumping from 21ºC to 41ºC to 42ºC the back to 21ºC etc...

I dont know whats going on!!

You mean not in windows but actually under bios, there's cpu temperature variation of 20C?
Strange. :-/
Ether misreading or maybe fan is stopping...

Touch the side of the HS while it is running to see if it feels really hot. That should help determine if it is a misreading...
