View Full Version : Temps always high..

I've built this PC back in March or so, and could never seem to get the temps down to what EVERYONE else here seems to run at. I now have upgraded(if you can call it that) to a Volcano 7+ which I now know was a waste of money, but in any case, until I can get a good heatsink+fan, perhaps someone can illuminate to me my problem.

P4 2.4 @ 2.97
IT7 Max2 ver. 2.0

I have 1 60mm fan blowing in, and 1 blowing out, and 1 92mm inside the case to circulate air, then I have the crapo fan from the Volcano.

When I first built the PC, I couldn't get my normal temps below about 50°, and under load would be pushing 60°. Well after I went through my entire tube of AS3, I gave up. I originally was putting wayyyyyy to much on, and finally ended with a nice thin coat. I did also clean it each time before reapplying. Now, 7 months down the road, and with the new fan/heatsink, The absolute lowest my CPU will go is 43.5° and around 54° under load. Case temp usually reads around oh 30° or so.

I'm just curious, is it possible I'm just doing something wrong, I'd estimate the room temp to be around 76°. It's just always bugged me to see so many people here with temps in the 30's.

Also would like to note, that it runs at this temp OC or not. And my voltage is at 1.5.

TIA for any help :)

Sorry to say but sounds like you need the SP-94 from Thermal-
right. $50 @ heatsinkfactory!!!I'm running SP-94 with Enermax
92mm Adj. fan. UC-9FAB 2800rpm@64cfm/34dBA.Temps are
very good in my opinion.THe stock setup SUCKED big time.
I'm not OCed yet, doing some temp testing 1st.Looks damb
good so far.I cann't get it up past 43c so far.Running Prime95
With Winamp visual @ 2/3rds screen to give me 100% CPU
usage.Stays cool running Quake for 2 or 3 hours too!
THE FANMAN:cool:
PS: Did you read the heatsink review @ overclockers.com
Good reading, infact there is a lot of info in the reviews.:D
What are your temps with door off and a fan blowing in??

Not any different really, it's just frustrating to see others here with the same chip, or even the non-c-stepping chip running cooler temps. I guess it's all system to system, and I really wish I knew what my computer was actually running at, since I keep hearing about all this crap about how Abit boards can read up to 15° higher than what it actually is....

About the accuracy of the readings, check for BIOS updates, they sometimes fix that. What i mean is, check if a new update specifically says it fixes that problem, otherwise don't update.

I have an MSI mobo, and each BIOS version says it fixed the temp issues but each of them reads too low or too high. At the very least, find a forum specific for your board and surely someone knows how far off your temps are according to your BIOS version. This is what i ended up doing, and MBM5 allows you to add a 'handicap' to your reading so it shows something closer to reality.

My temps were about the same as yours till i got this big 220v fan, it dropped 10c altogether placed on the front. It is noisy but i'm not picky about that. I kinda like hearing it roar up when i turn on the system!

lol im the same way, I like the noise, my computer is in it's own room, thankfully. Thanks for your help though, Ima look around and see what I can find.

The IT7 is an Abit board correct? Abit boards, have the reputation of reading temps high. I would still reccomend getting better cooling, But with my IC7-G, my temps will be higher than another person with the exact same setup except for a different board. Also, what are your ambient temps right now? Its super-hot here in So. Cal right now!! Its almost November already! Crazy california weather.

Its those 60mm system fans of yours, they dont push enough air in and out of the system!

I tend to agree with chasingapple. Inside the case you got 2 fans (including CPU fan) churning air like mad, but the fresh air coming in is nil. A 60mm fan is about as effective as a bug fart.
