This is a Western digital 60gig hd.
I am running windows 2000.

This was working fine and now it is not. I only had this drive for 6 months. It works fine sometimes. I can load up files and play games with no problems at all. I can log off and log back on, I also can restart as many times as i want. The problem starts when i shut down. It seems whenever i shut down my computer for a little bit and turn it back on i get all these boot errors. One was NT Detect and the other was load needed DLL's for kernel. It seems like every time i get new errors and it is never the same one. So after many restarts and booting from last known good configuration it seems to be running fine. I also did a fixboot. Now this worked for about a week. Last night i turn off my computer and when i booted it back up this morning i get all of these errors and it does not boot. Could you possibly help me out with this one, because i am lost. I dont understand, the computer working 100% perfect but when i turn it off and turn it back on again the next day it gets all messed up. This same thing has happened to me now three times. The first time i actually just reformatted because the drive was so new (2 months) but that did not work.

edit
actually this as happened to me a total of 5 times.

Please give more info about the machine. Is it one of the machines listed in your sig? Which OS are you using? (E.G. Win 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP)

Run Western Digital's set of diagnostics from the site - http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp#diagutils

it is box 2 in my sig
windows 2000

I already ran those diagnostic tools. It passes the SMART test and for the extended it found some bad sectors. So it gave me an option to fix them and that is what i did. Then it said that is passed the test. But the problem is still happening.

i did the diagnostics again and it says more bad sectors. It does not however give the sector numbers. So once again i fixed those errors. Right now it is working fine.
I think that the drive if failing.
I contacted WD to see what they had to say about his problem. They came to the conclusion that i need to replace it.
but if i need to replace it and it is giving me all of these errors, why is it working perfect right now. I also just turned off the computer and waited for about 2 hours and turned it back on. It booted up fine. It seems it is at random, sometimes it happens and other times it does not.

so after 4 scans of the disc, each scan taking more than 6 hours each, it found bad sectors. Now last night i was curious to see what it would say if i scanned again. So I scanned and this time it took less then an hour. 40 minutes to be exact and it came up with no errors or bad sectors.
What gives?
