Easiest way is to attain a program such as BootXP. Otherwise you'll have to edit ntoskrnl.exe in the system32 folder with a program called Resource Hacker and it's a real pain.

I did a few of these a while back.........you can see the whole lot at http://freespace.virgin.net/alasdair.ewen/bootscreens.htm

Be aware - different builds of XP have slightly different ntoskrnl.exe files. It's best you modify your own ntoskrnl.exe (it's pretty easy!) , or use BootXP

Here (http://www.belchfire.net/~userxp/indexlbr.htm) is a program that does it and RedDeathDrinker has instructions on his webpage.

hmmm... I got mine to work... it is lower than the standard one.

I just used booteditor from that linked page to do it.

Or you can rename the new ntoskrnl.exe to ntoskrnl2.exe and add that line to your boot.ini and just pick the boot you would like to use:)

There a way to do that off StyleXP also?

Only the logon screen. But I like the Logon and boot randomizer program better for both. Because of the style stuff and StyleXP being slightly buggy from time to time it tests to cause more confusion/problems (or at least has for me in the past).

You are probably right... the Logon and boot Randomizer proggy is not very easy to understand... I like it because it allows you to chang the logon screens too (or can you do that with bootxp?).

I use StyleXP and Bootxp for my Login/Boot Screens, and StyleXP for my desktop. I don't have a problem with it at all. StyleXP is a little buggy and once and a while it might not show the interface for your desktop correctly (more of a traditional style it turns to) but the next reboot usually fixes that if not going in manually will fix it.

I made my own - since i go to Stevens Institute of Technology - Made myself a dark Stevens Institute background..... wonderful little thing.

AND BTW - it's not meant to look evil. Just dark.

Btw - thanks for pointing out the BMp - sorta neglected that point.

|3lackmagiK: might be a good idea to change that to a jpeg.

your bmp file is around 900k and takes a while to load.
