How should I position my fans for optimal heat transfer? My case has a side window fan and 2 rear fans, as well as an exhaust power supply. Should I try to create positive pressure or negative pressure? I was thinking of making the side and the bottom rear fan intake and the upper rear fan+power supply exhaust for an equilibrium, would this work? I have no front intake/output, no blowholes, and no bottom holes either.

The case looks something like this (X's represent 80mm fans):

____________
(X)................l
(X)................l
(X).....(X).......l
l....................l
l____________l

If the picture is truly reflective of how the fans will be positioned, then that isn't going to do you much good.

The three fans in the back must all blow the same direction - if they don't they will be recirculating air, not good.

Rather than have three fans blowing the same direction with only a single side fan blowing the opposite direction, I would do this.

Intake on the side, exhaust through PSU and one fan in back.

Save the other fan until you can put an intake in the bottom front.

I might be able to cut mount holes or something in the front, but I can't make an intake bacause my case has one of those fancy LCD temp displays in the front and I really don't want to get rid of it. Would having a front fan but no intake hole for it work? It would look something like this (X's are fans, ( )'s are holes)

____________
(X)...............l
(X)...............l
(X).....(X)......l
l...................l
l___________Xl

Also, I have only 4 fans, so if I do this I would have to leave one slot empty.

Bump :) Would it work?

i suggest another window hole and if you have 2 free 5.25 drives cut a 80mm hole their and add a 120 mm blow hole, have PSU exhausy and 2 side window fans intake, and the 5.25 intake and i guess make blowhole exhaust and 2 back intake or make blowhole intake and two back ones exhaust whatever you want.

I acually wondering the same question right now, how would i place my fans... i was thinking 2 in the back blowing out, one on the left side, and one in the front blowing in.

To get the air you need you will have to open up the front
of the comp case.Cut hole.A fan without the air being available will only push the hot air around in the case.If that! You want to pull fresh air in the front and pull hot air out the back.Intake front.
Intake sides. Exhaust rear.Don't forget the PSU is a exhaust
also. The blow hole at the top is usually run as an exhaust.

You will need a front intake.

If you make intake and exhaust fans in the rear just above eachother you will make a circulation in the airflow there without cooling your case much.

Air preassure: possitive preassure = less dust. Making a negative preassure in your case wil make your box suck up air and dust through every crack it can find wich could get messy over time.

You could go without a front intake and still get good cooling by only using 3 fans. One top blowhole and 2 rear exhaust fans. The Cooling will be good but the time for the case to return to ambient temperatur will be long + you will have negative air preassure resulting in dust.

if you cant put another one on the frount intakening,
how bout one on the bottom frount intakeing?

Air flow is the most important thing, you can have 726 fans pointed at something but if the air has no way to move then its all for no good
