I'm looking at making my own waterblock and I know I'm going to upgrade to the 64 in a year or so. Is the only defense them the way mount to the motherboard? Are the mounts the same distance apart for both the XP and 64? If that's the only thing I have to change that will ok. If some one has pictures and dimension I would appreciate it. Thanks
I really don't think they have the same mounting holes. The Athlon 64 is a completely different socket and uses an all new clamping method. I don't have any experience with 64's but I pretty sure they are different.

I don't plan on using the mounting holes, I want to design it to mount the same way the stock heat sink does, HELP?
What did they change so the heatsinks can't go from XP to 64?

I wouldnt count on it, still waiting on a new contraption to attatch water blocks to the new A64's mount. The new boards do not have the same dimension for the 4 holes, or 4 holes for that matter (only has 2, for screws)

actually that looks like a sweet setup...maybe a plate over the top of the waterblock and longer screws :)

That seems to be the method.

I think a new hold down top may do the trick
Compare these:
Athlon XP Maze4 (http://www.dangerden.com/images/MAZE4/Maze4_AMD_large.jpg)
P4 Maze4 (http://www.dangerden.com/images/MAZE4/Maze4_478_large.jpg)
Athlon64 Maze4 (http://www.dangerden.com/images/athlon64/a64_lucite_lg.jpg)
Only the top is changing. Looking at the Athlon64 waterblock you can see the screw holes are a good distance from the copper portion of the waterblock, so I think a hold down may work fine.
